I hired Andy, (Jersey Brotherhood Construction) to repair a porch. The good first: He came to my home within a day after we spoke and provided quotation. When I decided to move forward with him, he provided a start date and as promised, showed up on the agreed date. He had one worker with him. Every day he would drop his worker off and then would seemingly, go to another job.. not quite sure. Subsequently, 6 hours later, he would return to my home up and pickup his worker, (Andy very rarely worked on the porch himself). After the second day, things began to take a turn for the worse. Andy would text me indicating there was some type of problem. First, he said the stair supports leading up to the porch were rotted and needed replacement, (this added an additional $3,500.00). The next day, he claimed the support beams for the second level porch were also rotting and needed replacement, (another $2,000.00). After all was said and done, the job turned out double the cost of what I was initially quoted. I felt misled as these are things Andy should have noticed and discussed with me during the quoting stage. Once the construction issues were resolved, it was the small finishing details that truly showed the poor quality of his work. Andy placed moldings around the base of the supports. He literally cut the moldings in half, placed around the column and then caulked the area where the molding was rejoined. Caulk was everywhere and because the caulking was done on a rainy day, it washed off onto the porch floor and looked absolutely horrible. At the tops of the support columns, he installed the same decorative moldings. Not only did the caulk wash off, but the moldings were installed crooked. Additionally, he never placed silicon at the top of the column where the PVC sleeve covers the wooden post, so water can penetrate and cause the wood to rot just like before. Here's the kicker, he had to cut the PVC sleeves in order to access and replace the rotting wood. Once he reinstalled the PVC sleeves back on the support posts he left the "cut mark" exposed so it looked like a crack had formed on each post. He offered no solution, so I had instructed him to place a molding over the cracked areas. He agreed, but did an absolutely horrible job. Nothing was squared and rather than place a full molding around each post, he cut 4 wooden squares and caulked the corners. again, all the caulk deteriorated. I asked Andy to come back to my home and resolve these issues, he agreed and said he would return after the winter and make the repairs. I called him in April, left numerous messages and texted him, but he was not responding. He did eventually respond and return, but did not make all the repairs and said he would come back at another time, but I'm still waiting, nearly 10 months after he started the job. Again, I tried to get a hold of him for 2 months and he did not return any of my messages until 2 weeks ago. He told me he did a perfect job and that he doesn't want to be bothered with, in his words, "my black thoughts." He said I should have spent the money to replace all the PVC around the porch despite it being in good condition prior to his butchering. If he ever decides the fix the job and make things right, I will update my rating. But for now, if I could give a negative star I could. By the way, he asked to paid in cash, just beware.
