Sandro's painting

Sandro’s Painting repainted the interior of my and my wife’s 1-bedroom condo, which we rent out, and had come highly recommended. In fact, once the job was done we were quite happy with the work. It all looked great. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as great as it seemed. When our new tenants moved in two and a half months after the paint job was done (the apartment was empty when it was painted), they noted that the new paint on the woodwork, the window seat and built-in shelves, was tacky--and that is still true now, over three months after the job was done. Even light objects stick to the surfaces. I asked around and learned that after so much time, if paint isn’t dry it means the job was not done well: either skimping on primer or not leaving enough time between coats. So I contacted Sandro and complained to him, since this put me and my wife in a bind, having to explain to new tenants that it’s a problem we and they are (pardon the pun) stuck with. I told him that I would have to write a negative review of his work if he didn’t address the problem. He wrote right back and said he would always fix a defect in a job that was his or his painters’ fault, and asked if he could go take a look. To make a long story short, Sandro himself did not go, but he sent a couple guys from his crew over to our apartment to look at it, and they said, yes, it was much too sticky but the surfaces weren’t damaged per se (no paint had pulled off because of the stickiness). I’ve tried contacting Sandro a few times since then, to ask him what he proposes to do about the defective work, and he never answered. So, in sum, it does seem we’re stuck with it and can only hope it eventually dries--maybe after the summer, when heating is on and the air is dry. In the meantime our tenants have said they’ll live with it, which is great but puts us in the awkward position of renting an apartment that’s not really up to expected standards. Plus, if the stickiness persists we’ll have to redo the job at some point, though if it had been done properly it would have lasted for years. In the end, then, I’d have to say that Sandro did not do the good job his (plenty high) prices would seem to guarantee, and he was a lot less than accountable when I complained about it.

We have NEVER had a more attentive, careful, professional painting crew than Sandro's. Our house needed attention and every single little corner has been attended to. The group had been working in the neighborhood before doing our house, so we had observed their work. These guys are the real deal and we highly recommend them.
