About Gas Specialty Company Inc
Our company has been a family owned and operated business since 1992. The founder Robert Miner began his piping career at the Newport News Shipyard in 1980. Leaving the shipyard to pursue a career as a Professional Firefighter for the Virginia Beach Fire Department in 1983; he is a current veteran of over 25 years with the department. Mr. Miner was employed as a service manager for a local propane company until 1992 when he formed Gas Specialty. Gas Specialty Company has a business philosophy of doing it right the first time. We use only the highest quality materials and craftsmanship in our installations. Our employees are trained to do things the right way, no shortcuts. We believe that we can only stay in business by hearing from your friends and family. We consider our customers as part of our family and treat them as such. Our goal at GSC is to set the standard for which all contractors should be judged. Mr. Miner has spent many years on the Board of Directors for the Qualified Gas Contractors of Virginia. He has also set on committees for the Virginia State Board of contractors.

Installation went fine. I was overcharged for services not performed. The owner told me the higher price for the cook-top was due to having them hook it up. The technicians told me the same thing as did the secretary. They ultimately did not hook up the cook-top, I did. They also tried to over charge me for 20 extra feet of gas line that was not installed. I was "quoted" 80 feet, but I actually measured what was installed and it only came up to 58 feet. If I had not checked their work myself I would have been charged $200 extra. The owner would not lower the price of the cook-top installation, even though I installed it. He stated that there was more labor involved. This is not what he originally told to me. I have no problem paying for services rendered, but when you change your story about the description of the costs, I have a problem. I spoke to people who know the owner and I was told that he routinely overestimates jobs. Beware of this company, you pay for more than you get. The work performed by the actual technicians was good and they are friendly, but the customer service and business practices of the owner are shady.
