Uptown Condo

Aug 2016

To preserve the open-plan nature of the 700 sq ft. studio residence the concept of flexible space was employed through furniture mounted on castors and the use of customized movable partitions and shelving to define the sleeping area without compromising the space. Slatted poplar wood partition walls with light transmitting polycarbonate panels are designed to light both interior and exterior of dressing area closet. A central mirrored storage system creates the bedroom space and is surrounded by a wall of organic textured Wallart panels. Use of grey tones creates visual boundaries, defining space and highlighting the striking orange sofa and barrel seat that are complemented by several large abstract paintings. Displayed together with many pieces of modern ceramics and sculptural light fittings they create a gallery feel whilst maintaining a comfortable, peaceful home.

Custom remodel of small master bathroom. The concept was drawn from Japanese aesthetic and use of small spaces via muted warm grey tones in the color and tile selections, a walk-in curbless shower, Japanese soaking tub and a minimal custom vanity design utilizing eco-friendly Paperstone as counter top and a wall partition in 3Form Chroma. Phillipe Starck faucets finish the space.

The client wished for a totally new modern kitchen that reflected their lifestyle. The final design involved removing a load-bearing wall between the original kitchen and dining area, a new kitchen ceiling, a new redesigned kitchen window, a new entrance to a home theater suite and the addition of a small pantry. The design was informed by a concept that alluded to the clients' professions in the entertainment industry. Cabinets and appliance form and colors were used unconventionally to reflect the concept. The wall was replaced by a custom bar island that was designed to create a visual boundary/entrance to the kitchen area, once again informed by the concept, it brought together a variety of modern Eco-friendly materials. The pantry glass barn door was customized by laminating a graphic image of melted celluloid film back lit by an existing window in the space. Dimmable LED lighting was used throughout.
