Ho-Hum to Dazzling | Aug 2013 | This is a large, multi-stage project that is ongoing. Much of the original landscape was installed improperly, resulting in the decline and eventual death of many of the plants. Phase I of the master plan, completed in Spring 2013, involved the discovery and remediation of major drainage problems resulting from the use of clay as a substrate upon which the home and its surrounding landscape were built. By installing French drains, employing special planting techniques, and altering the planting design to include plants that are more tolerant of wet feet, we have begun to transform a boring and unhealthy landscape into a colorful and interesting garden. Since this residence is the first one visitors to this upscale neighborhood see, the clients are particularly interested in presenting a beautiful landscape to passers-by. | Melbourne, FL
Low Maintenance Pool Enclosure | Oct 2010 | Clients' mobility issues necessitated a very low maintenance garden. The leaky waterfall was disconnected and made more attractive with the addition of bromeliads. Staining and algae growth from the old overhead sprinkler system was resolved by retrofitting it into a drip system, which also saves water. Low maintenance foliage plants add to the tropical paradise ambiance. | Rockledge, FL
Color and Roses | Mar 2010 | We created a bright, colorful garden using a warm color palette to coordinate with the vivid red roof and shutters of this Cocoa Beach home. Yellow Julia Child roses were inserted into the new central island bed to remind the client of her former home. Their placement near the front of the bed makes routine maintenance and flower harvesting easier. Other plants in the new garden are tough natives and Florida friendlies that are relatively low maintenance so this busy client can spend her limited gardening time caring for her favorites, the roses. | Cocoa Beach, FL
Secret Garden | Aug 2009 | We created a sense of privacy along the side yard of the house in an otherwise wide open back yard. The client can now use the area for her morning meditation. We took advantage of the existing large bougainvillea to create a privacy screen and divert attention to its eye-grabbing color, rather than to the secluded garden beyond. Additional small trees and shrubs were added to further block the view into the private patio area. Potted herb plants were added for accent and to provide easy access just outside the kitchen door. | Titusville, FL |
