Ryan gave us a quote, took our deposit, power-washed and never completed the project - did not repair boards that we discussed or stain the deck. At one point after several delays he agree to return the deposit rather than complete the work, never actually showed up to return the deposit. Terrible experience. In the process of trying to go to small claims court to get our deposit back.

Never again. Needed the deck stained. He gave a great price quote, they power washed the deck leaving most of the old stain, picked up the deposit and never came back to stain the deck. Never responded to follow-up messages. Lots of excuses, no finished product.

I hired Ryan’s Renovations to stain my deck. When he finished the job, I paid him the amount of his bid plus $250 because I believed him to be an honest young man eager to do well in his business. Within minutes, I realized that I had made an error in writing the check and had overpaid him $600+ not including the $250 extra. I am 74 years old, retired, and living on a fixed income, and having difficulty with calculations. I contacted him immediately and he assured me he would return the money. I have had multiple contacts with him and he has promised to repay me. He then does not show up with my money when he said he would and does not return my calls. So he is proving himself to be not only a thief, but a liar. The quality of his work was also disappointing. He painted debris that was between the deck boards into the deck rather than cleaning them out (or telling me I needed to do so beforehand, which I would have done). I had someone else power wash the deck prior to hiring Ryan to stain it. He or his workers also threw used paint rollers, brushes, and extension poles into my gardens and left them there for me to pick up, and left many areas of the deck unpainted. Because the paint was wet when he left, I was not aware of this until the next day. He also dripped paint all over my stained concrete patio below the deck. I was willing to forget these issues and finish the painting myself with help of family members, if he would simply return my $600+ overpayment, but he has refused to do so. Therefore, I am left with no other option than to caution others to not use Ryan’s Renovations or any other business Ryan Johnson of Fowlerville, MI offers. I realize that Ryan will probably do everything he can to make this review unavailable to others, but if I can prevent him from doing to one other person what he has done to me, it will be worth it. He will also probably have others place fake positive reviews, but I believe his dishonest ways will catch up with him. Therefore, I will keep posting it on Porch.com and any other website I can find to caution others about him. I am proud to say I taught my children well and they are honest and hard workers. I don’t believe that Ryan’s parents can say the same. Maybe someone will cheat them in the same way as he has done me some day and he will get to know how my children feel to see their mother treated this way.

The crew showed up on time and did a good job of prepping and staining my deck.
