We fully appreciated that the client wanted to preserve the look of the home, where she had a very happy childhood. However, the old cabinets were actually quite outdated and did not really go very well with the rest of the home either. That style was also not available in RTA cabinets, so while it was possible to have it customized, it would be much more expensive. We explained this to the client as tactfully as possible, and suggested nice, flat paneled maple cabinets to match the floors instead, showed her how the kitchen would look with the new cabinets using our visualizer tool. Faced with major expenses for her new appliances, and admitting that the design we suggested looked pretty good, she accepted the RTA cabinets and asked us to deliver it asap, as the cabinets had to be installed before the new appliances arrived.

Her new kitchen cabinets were J&K Cabinetry 42″ Mocha Maple glazed cabinets (K10). It would be a simple matter to order more cabinets for the client as we are dealers of J&K. We pointed out where we could add more cabinets over the refrigerator and above the sink. We could also add hanging glass-fronted cabinets all around the adjoining dining room. With our suggestions, she would effectively double her storage space. It would mean moving things she doesn’t use on a daily basis to the dining room cabinets, which is also recommended from an organizational point of view. We also suggested tilt out trays for her faux drawers. The client was enthusiastic about all our suggestions, especially when we gave her a quote that was way below what she expected to pay, and asked us to deliver it as soon as possible.

The clients had inherited a charming 3-bedroom ranch house in Schaumburg built in 1967, and was making plans to move there from Wisconsin. It was very traditionally designed, which was exactly how the client wanted it. However, the kitchen cabinets were not in good condition, and they were quite small, so the client wanted them all replaced. She contacted us for a quote on new cabinets.

The project was a straightforward one. The client already trashed all the old cabinets so demolition was not necessary. He wanted the same style of cabinets in the home for simplicity’s sake, so it was just a matter of taking the measurements based on the existing layout of each room. He had already drawn up a list of cabinets he needed, and chose Elston shaker style oak cabinets and drawers with soft close features from Schrock. The company offered semi-custom cabinets in this style, so use in the bedrooms would not be a problem. We provided him with a cost estimate for all the cabinets he needed, and his only concern was how quickly we could deliver it. We consulted with the manufacturer, and given a timeline of four to six weeks for the semi-custom cabinets, and two to four weeks for the RTA cabinets. It was little longer than he wanted, but we promised to do what we could to shorten the waiting time. He made a 50% down payment so we could order the cabinets.

The client had very precise requirements for his cabinetry. He produced a design layout for what he needed, and it was just a question of choosing door style, wood, and finish. After browsing through the many options we carried, he selected the Fabuwood Shaker style cabinets in birch with a natural finish. It was a full overlay door with reversed panel with soft-close hidden hinges.While the drawer had slab drawer fronts and dovetail box construction with adjustable shelves. The color and style was an excellent choice, complementing black granite countertops and transitioning to the light hardwood floors. However, his requirements meant custom cabinets, which would take longer to deliver. We advised the client that custom cabinets would take six to eight weeks for delivery. The client had no problems with this as the build was still ongoing in other parts of the home. Would take another two months to complete.

Our designer created the 3D modeling of her proposed layout, and sent it to the clients for approval. They agreed that it seemed like a winner, so we went back with our catalogues to help them pick out the cabinet styles before giving them a quote. Chose a stylish Cortland maple with full overlay and slab drawers in cider finish from Schrock cabinetry. We agreed on a price, and we ordered the cabinets. It would take up to 8 weeks for delivery for the custom pieces.

The number of cabinets in the kitchen was indeed inadequate, and they were in poor condition. They had obviously been repainted to hide the damage, but upon inspection, there were clear signs of water damage. We recommended replacing all the kitchen cabinets to avoid problems later on. We showed them different styles of cabinets that would look very well with the existing kitchen colors. However, the clients could not make a choice because they were worried about the costs of buying and installing a whole set of new kitchen cabinets. We gave them a preliminary estimate using RTA J&K K10 Macha Maple Glazed cabinets, and it surprised them. Since it was within their budget, they decided to go for it.
