Riddle Services

Of all the decisions I've made regarding my home, hiring Riddle Services is probably the one I'll regret the most. Make sure to review their profile on the BBB website as this will give you a good preview of the types of excuses & behavior you'll experience should you use them. I didn't; I'll not make that mistake again! I'll start with the positives: most of their pricing seemed fair & they were quick to start. I think that's about the end of the weak praise I can offer. Their job: trim up some beams on the exterior to get rid of dry rot, & get the master bath, which I demoed down to mostly studs, to the point where I can do the finish work. Moving the shower drain a little & switching the sink & toilet drains were the only somewhat tricky parts. Eh, maybe sloping the floor under the shower pan would count. In any case, almost everything has been a battle. They claim to have done "extra work" when it's convenient for them but otherwise try to use the contract like a weapon. They claim the shower door--which is in the contract--will not work (even though it fits every possible spec) & contend that the extra work they did somehow covers the cost of its installation. They did slope the floor under the pan, but for some reason it's crunchy as heck & doesn't feel especially professional. They used OSB as an underlayment which, while to code, is a substandard material under tile due to increased flexibility. They claim to have moved all the plumbing but somehow forgot to provide water for the toilet (which I did myself). They apparently have never seen a 3 piece shower insert & somehow that proved seriously daunting (I got it done--correctly, mind you--in about 3 or 4 hours after they failed twice because I actually read the directions). On the exterior, dude cut the beams with a freaking sawzall. They look about as good as you'd expect, & I even found a place where he munched up some of the facing. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to make that look less crappy. So the quality of work has been mediocre at best & straight up bad at worst. When a relatively low experience, low talent DIY schmuck like myself could do a better job on literally everything they touched (save for moving the shower & toilet drains), that really says something. They still have drywall to finish, allegedly this weekend. Hopefully that goes somewhat better, though I'm far from optimistic. I assume I'll be installing the door at this point, which is total crap... But at least I'll know it's done correctly. I haven't even touched on the condescending tone they took with my wife, nor the owner's habit of dropping F bombs like a DJ drops beats (even in front of my kids). Oh! And they broke the shut off valve in the basement, tried to say it was the city's problem, then charged me to repair it when the city said otherwise. This left us without water for a day or so. Accidents happen & the valve was older, but I still find this one especially odd. My tl/dr: Reward people who take pride in craftsmanship & PLEASE avoid these folks!

Beware! We had a project started in our backyard by this company in April 2018. It's still not finished. Extremely poor craftsmanship. The "workers" were clueless and unprofessional. The owner is arrogant, vulgar (uses profanity constantly), and could care less that we are not satisfied with work we paid for. This company is not accredited by the Better Business Burea.

Zero stars needs to be an option sometimes and this is a time when that option is necessary. Incompetent. Owner is a weasel.

I made the mistake of recommending this company to a friend based on a hardworking employee I know. The owner showed up 40 minutes late without even a courtesy call. Then was so very unprofessional...as to begin he told her "well girl, show me what the F*ck you want done" and throughout her presenting all the projects continued to drop the f bomb and curse. Including, "well, that is really dumb....I mean I will take your f-ing money but that's not what needs to be done". Though he obviously was extremely knowledgeable -in many different areas....he didnt take one measurement or write anything down. He then asked her "dont be offended, but how the f*ck did you get my company as I am in perrysburg and get all my f-ing money in perrysburg that I dont need to go anywhere else". When she tokd him my referral based on the worker- he jokingly called the guy a racially obese curse word. THEN he said he would get back with her in a week with an estimate on the projects. Over two weeks go by....nothing. so she calls them back...they apologized and said they would get right back with her....thatwas 9 days ago. If he didnt want the projects...which were decent money projects for a successful woman whom could have led to more projects and referrals.....he could have simply said so rather than wasting their time and the past month.
