Shingle Style Home

Apr 2010

This home was designed for a developer on a "tear-down" lot in Rye, NY. The architect chose to design a classic shingle style home with cedar shingles finished with bleaching oil, stone veneer, white PVC trim and copper roofing.

French Country Home

May 2002

This French Country home sits on 30 acres in Katonah, New York and was designed for a couple with 3 young children. Their desire was to create a home of timeless architectural design reminiscent of the French Country style. They wanted the typical formal rooms, but also wanted to include plenty of informal spaces. The architect designed the main house (10,000 square feet along with 3000 square feet in the basement) along with a 2,000 sq. ft. detached pool house that has a kitchen, bath and changing rooms above a two car garage. The free form pool that sits adjacent to the pool house was blasted out of the rock ledge and incorporates a waterfall down the face of the rock into the pool. The architectural design includes an extensive use of round forms in plan & elevation that create both great spaces inside & interesting forms outside. Exterior materials are cedar shingle siding, fiberglass shingle roofing (with the appearance of slate), copper gutters & leaders, & board & batten shutters.

Redone Commercial Building

Aug 2000

His project was a small commercial building in Pound Ridge, with the owners buying the building to convert into a kitchen showroom & office space. A small addition was done, the interior was completely gutted & remodeled while the exterior was redone in the classic shingle style... cedar shingle siding & roofing, dark green trim & a cupola that floods the interior with light. The building has since been converted into a private residence.

Addition/remodel in Greenwich CT by DeMotte Architects

Jun 2018

The existing 4600 SF house built in 1959, was very dated. My clients bought the house with the intent to heavily remodel both the interior & exterior. We transformed it into a European style home based on their Portuguese background. Design details include hip roofs with sweeping eaves, arched dormers, a turret mud room entry. Also, wrought iron Juliet balconies & copper finials.

Custom colonial home in Westport CT by DeMotte Architects

Jun 2016

This custom colonial home replaced an existing cape on the same property. The owners originally intended to add onto & remodel. A “tear the roof off & build a second story addition” project quickly segued into designing a new 7000 SF house. This is a classic grand colonial, with a front porch that extends the full width of the house. All primary living spaces are arranged along the back of the house to take advantage of the southern exposure. The second floor consists of a master bedroom suite and with 3 bedrooms, along with a playroom above the garage. The main stair extends all the way up to the 3rd floor, creating a dramatic entry. The kitchen & family room open onto a terrace, with a screened porch also having direct access from the kitchen.
