Although the clients love their home, the way it's positioned on the golf course, the pool and outdoor entertaining area, as well as the open floor pan, the master bath was just plain awkward. A corner tub wasn't necessary and taking up valuable floor space while the make-up vanity behind the bathroom door caused the entry and shower space to feel claustrophobic. They were craving modern sleek lines, dark wood and dramatic features.

A small bathroom gets a big improvement with the addition of a shower, skylights, and a custom sliding barn door using reclaimed wood planks. The client wanted a bathroom that was not only functional but also offered a large window to provide natural light and air flow to the upstairs hall and master bedroom. A shower and suitable storage were also necessary. The challenge was working within the existing footprint. Keeping materials simple, with small scale fixtures and fittings, as well as creating seamless transitions allowed the space to feel bigger. By implementing industrial and more modern elements, this early craftsman bungalow now sits comfortably in the 21st century. The shower features a shaving ledge and shampoo cubby, finished with a schluter edge. Hex tile flooring was continued into the shower. An integrated concrete sink and vanity was custom made. The sliding barn door and mirrors were also custom made using reclaimed wood planks. A section of the attic was finished off with a cabinet and concrete counter to match the vanity for additional storage space. A large industrial metal cabinet sits at the end of the hall for a more interesting storage solution.

Depth and richness was achieved with dark espresso cabinetry and beautiful mocha and charcoal veined Ceasarstone quartz counters. Bright white subway tile paired with metallic and slate colored mosaic strips add personality, tying in the other metal accents in the home. We maintained the original cabinetry footprint to keep the existing tile floor. Although the space is compact, the galley kitchen offers plenty of storage with lower pull out drawers vs cabinet shelving, customized spice rack, a slender cookie sheet cabinet, and even a display shelf for the client's mug collection. A new stainless steel refrigerator was need immediately with the remaining appliances being upgraded in the next year.
