His grandfather, a Danish immigrant, made a living as a trade bricklayer in Baltimore, MD -passing on his expertise to Mark's father who also worked for the family business. Although Mark's father later became an ordained minister, he continued to impart his own love of building onto mark. It was in this setting that as a young boy, Mark developed an eager interest in helping his father with all orders of home improvement projects. Mark got his official start in construction in high school, working for his Uncle Leroy's construction company, Merritt Construction, one of the largest privately held commercial construction companies in Maryland. Over the next 7 years, Mark finished high school and continued on to College, all while expanding his skill-set at Merritt, then several other residential remodeling firms. These years proved formative and led to his realization that construction would be a lifelong passion of his. Immediately after graduating from Virginia Tech with his Bachelors in Business, he invested himself into a new Construction Company in Northern VA which won rave reviews, becoming recognized for exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The business expanded, and soon became the award-winning, full-service design/build company it is today, under the banner of Capital Area Construction. In recent years, the company has continued to thrive on its reputation for quality craftsmanship despite the housing market crash. Today Capital Area Construction serves Northern Virginia, District of Columbia, and Most of Montgomery County Maryland.

I spoke with Lead Estimator Will Melander to request an estimate for outside home repairs which consisted of replacing a carport ceiling, gutter and soffit work, and prepping and painting my home’s foundation. He scheduled the estimate the very same day at 11:00 a.m. I received the written estimate via email on Wednesday, 10/14/15, as agreed. The estimate was professional and of sufficient detail. Although Capital’s estimate was actually $250 less than another contractor, I elected to go with another contractor because they offered a lifetime guarantee rather than one year. I would, however, definitely consider Capital for future work.

COTY 2014 Winner - Basement Remodel | Sep 2013 | This is our COTY (Contractor of the year) Award winning Basement Design and Remodel in Ashburn area. Our Client's basement had several columns that were just decorative and not meant for supporting the structure. The columns restricted the flow and also there were too many walls that made the basement look more like a maze. Our Client wanted an open floorplan for the basement. We hired a Structural Engineer who helped us remove the columns without compromising safety of the structure. We distributed the weight on the walls and were able to open up the space and provided our Clients with what they wanted. Our Clients are the only ones who have an open floor plan for the basement which they are truly happy with. | $80k | Ashburn, VA | |
