Adam and Melony's Tile Plank Kitchen

Aug 2015

When I met Melony she had torn out her only entire bathroom apart. Down to the studs. While her husband was at work! Enthralled I took no time to formulate a plan for her for that day, and the following week. We took no time to finish their bathroom. Next call we received from them was Adam about a year later to finish this beautiful kitchen floor for them in grey ceramic planks. The Sub-floor was in great condition. The joists in the basement below were strong and had little flex so tile was a viable option. There is a bow in the floor from settling which you can see in the picture of an ants view, but that problem was easily resolved by choosing to run the tiles parallel to the existing hardwood floors perpendicular to the joists as they should. It was further determined to install the tile under everything but the kitchen sink ;-p cabinets. Concrete Underlayment was installed at a thickness of 1/4" and the tile was -1/4" +mortar thickness leading to 9/16ths of an inch. Adam and Melony chose Oak to transition from Hardwood to tile. We modified solid oak molding to fit, stained that to match, and voila!
