Private Residence | Aug 2013 | A 1970's home received a facelift to the exterior while correcting structural problems with an existing sinking garage. Reconfiguration of the garage allowed for a better visual connection of the front entry and an expanded front elevation. The entire home was cladded with new brick with let-in stone features. The roof line was reconfigured with nesting gables. The house also received new siding. The interior expanded the laundry room/mud room and centered the foyer while expanding the space at the same time. The original colonial house now boasts a master suite with a private bath and walk-in closets over the garage, along with four additional bedrooms. The master suite is highlighted with a tray ceiling, large windows and french doors leading to a private roof deck with a decorative pergola. Prairie style details and horizontal lines further express the master suite. The master bath includes a dual sink vanity and a large steam shower. The balance of the existing second floor was reconfigured to provide four secondary bedrooms, two full baths, a central hall and space for a future elevator. The central hall allowed the existing stairway to be detailed with new wood rails. The first renovation relocated the kitchen and family room to the rear of the house to take advantage of views to the rear yard. The new kitchen has a central island and ample work surfaces. Large expanses of glass allows for a bright and light room and a strong connection to the exterior. The new family room contains a fireplace with adjacent built-in cabinetry and high decorative windows. the former kitchen area was converted into an intimate den with french doors to the new family room. The renovation also incorporated a new decorative wood stair to the lower level that contains a rec room, a full bath and a laundry room. The second renovation involved the reconfiguration of bedrooms and the creation of a new master suite. two smaller bedrooms were combined into a larger secondary bedroom, while the new master suite now occupies two other former bedrooms. The exterior renovation added a large front porch with decorative columns and a stone base. New windows and siding patterns, common with a Victorian style home, were recreated to reflect the home's original grandeur. A screened porch was reconstructed and enclosed to allow for additional year round living space. A new addition provided a larger area for the kitchen with an island, a breakfast room and a rear entry into the house. The first floor was redesigned to accommodate additional living space for family use and entertaining. The formal rooms remained unchanged while the kitchen now overlooks a new breakfast room. A family room is across a grand hall from the breakfast room and has french doors connecting the family room to the living room. The two story stair hall, with custom wood stair and rail, acts as the centerpiece for all of the living spaces. At the rear of the home, separated by an entry chamber, sits the new master suite.
