Geothermal Heating and Cooling Systems

Mar 2014

Geothermal Heating and Cooling systems are the best way to heat and cool your home. With special Federal Tax Credits available until 2016, homeowners get 30% off the total installed price of the Geothermal System, not like the other tax credits that have limits or caps. Gra-Tac offers and installs Trane Geothermal Heating and Cooling Systems. Trane Geothermal Heat Pumps: Geothermal systems are the most efficient way to heat and cool your home, as well it does some of the hot water heating also. They rate Geothermal Units differently than they do air source equipment, but the most important thing to remember is: Geothermal Heat Pumps use a relatively constant ground temperature instead of the wildly varying outdoor air temperature. So when it's 10 degrees in the winter, or 95+ degrees in the summer, the Geo unit is using that relatively constant ground temperature to heat and cool your home or office comfortably. Just as there are with any type of system, there are options: Variable Speed, Two-Stage, Single-Stage Compressors to help match the HVAC load of the home or business, Package (on left below) or Split (on right below) Equipment to best fit the installation space available, Variable Speed Fans on High Efficiency Models and improved comfort or Standard Fans for regular efficiency systems, and then there are the Horizontal or Vertical Geothermal Loops we lean toward Horizontal Geo Loops where they can be used, it all depends on the amount of accessible land and digging conditions you have.

Indoor Air Quality Testing

Mar 2014

Gra Tac's approach to Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is Find It, Fix It, and YOU WILL Feel Better. The first step is testing your home or office for the leading causes of poor Indoor Air Quality: Temperature, Humidity, Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Particulate Matter, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). According to the EPA, the air inside the average home is up to five times more polluted than the air outside. Pollen, dust mites, dirt, and mold spores in your home's air can cause minor health problems like eye and nose irritation, dizziness, and headaches. Poor Indoor air Quality can also cause more serious problems like respiratory illness, as well as aggravate allergies and asthma. Once we know what is in the air in your home or office, fixing it gets much easier. We don't simply do the same thing in every situation, we present options and you choose the course of action. Sometimes it is as simple as Source Control, changing the household/office cleaning methods or products. As well it can be caused by lack of maintenance to the HVAC system, poor filters, leaking or dirty ductwork. Then there is what is inside the home or office, people breathing, pets, chemicals, combustion appliances, building products off gassing VOCs. You can decrease the concentration of indoor pollutants by increasing the quantity of air circulating. Sometimes this involves Exhuasting Stale Air and Bringing In Fresh Air. Sometimes you have to Filter and/or Treat the air with special IAQ Products. Some are shown below. Call for more information or having your Indoor Air Quality Tested.

Comfort Systems

Mar 2014

With close to 50 percent of your home's utility bill going toward Heating and Cooling - HVAC Maintance, Repair, and Replacement are very important in Bowling Green and Southern Kentucky. Gra-Tac Heating and Cooling's mission is to help Southern Kentucky Homeowners with their Heating, Cooling, Indoor Air Quality, and Energy Savings needs. Existing Homes: As HVAC Systems age, their efficiency, performance, and reliability decrease. We usually see an average life expectancy of HVAC systems at 16 years. Some brands are better than others. Trane systems are consistently STILL RUNNING and average closer to 30 years old when we replace Trane Air Conditioners, Heat Pumps, and Furnaces. Even if your HVAC System is still running, is it costing you more money than it's worth?
