Hartmann Rentals

My husband and I put a deposit down on a rental we loved (friday). Less than 24 hours later my mother-in-law passed away and we could no longer move into the rental. I called the office twice this morning (Monday) and was told they couldn't make an exception and refund our deposit. We haven't even signed a lease. The payment hadn't even been posted to my bank account! If the death of an immediate family member doesn't warrant an exception than what does? This is absolutely ridiculous.
