Houdini's Drywall Magic

Mike came in and finished my gym. He showed up on time and worked very professionally. I can say for me it was a dustless operation. He completed my home gym and fixed a few things around the house. I would not hesitate to hire him again

After reading good reviews and after visits with several contractors we decided to go with Mike for our drywall work. However, we were very shocked and disappointed with our experience. It was good for the first couple of days, but then things changed. He asked for a $1,000 advance in addition to the payments we had made for work in place. He was doing a good job so we felt comfortable giving it to him - he gave us a story of how badly he needed it. But then his progress sharply declined. Every day he asked for more money in advance of work completed including twice asking for a personal loan. Thankfully we stuck to our standards and did not give him any further advances beyond work in place after his work product started slipping. In addition, he started having a very bad attitude. He was very angry, irritated, and frustrated at everything even for things that should be basic contractor services - like adhering to the general dimensions we clearly stated upfront. He started making mistakes with basic layouts like what goes where. But every time we corrected him, he responded with increasing anger. To top it all off, one day he got quite angry over a question my husband asked about his work and he said he was going to get some food and never came back. We called multiple times that all went straight to voicemail and it was clear he just took his money and ran. We finally took the rest of his stuff to the police station and left him a message to never come back to our property. I felt bad for Mike as he has clearly had some sort of change that is affecting him, but I would never use him again and would warn anyone else to be very careful. As we dig deeper into buried reviews in his past it is clear that this is not the first time he has done exactly this, but he moved to a new state so many of those reviews did not follow him. Do not hire Mike.

Generally, Mike has good reviews for his services - that's why we went with him in the first place. After accepting the drywall job he overheard that we were looking for bathroom remodel work and he asked us for that job too. After looking at some photos of tile work he had done, and since he was already in our house, we agreed to hire him for the bathroom job too. Things were fine for awhile but he clearly was out of his element with the tile work. He told us he could move some plumbing and then stared at it for 2 solid days without making any progress forcing us to hire a plumber to fix his "work". Mike also did multiple things wrong and not at all like we asked him to, such as putting shower niches in the wrong places and setting the shower dimensions incorrectly multiple times. He had to tear out some work because he wasn't listening to what we wanted him to do. Then came the anger. Anytime we asked him to redo the shoddy work he had done he would get mad and roll his eyes. This carried on for about 20 days. He also wanted to charge us $1300 to tear up the concrete shower pan that was to be replaced, so we rented a jack hammer and did it ourselves in 45 minutes after he left. Multiple times, Mike asked for personal loans and advances as well as money to get his tools out of pawn that he needed for the job. We also had to rent a jack hammer AGAIN for him to install a toilet flange because he doesn't have a credit card to do so. Things came to a head this morning. We probably had 2-3 days left in the project (after nearly a month of this guy being in our house) and I asked Mike to replace a couple tiles that were cut incorrectly. He rolled his eyes and gave me some excuse and argued with me before finally saying he would replace them. Moments later, he began taking his tools to his truck. His helper had not arrived yet and I assumed he was cleaning and clearing the space until he had help with the tile. Mike eventually left without saying a word and never came back. Mike promised us things that he never delivered on aside from not even completing the project. Our house is a disaster from the drywall (he says his process is "dust-less" but that is a lie) and tile work and we're left to clean up the mess. I would NEVER recommend this guy to anyone. He is the most unprofessional person I've ever worked with and didn't even have the decency to tell me he was leaving. Luckily, we had not paid him the full amount of his quote because he was not producing results. Rude and unacceptable behavior all around. Don't be fooled.

I am very pleased with Mike's work. He patched and blended in 5 different places in my ceilings. They were professional, on time, easy to work with and did an excellent repair job and clean up. I am so glad I called him as he solved my ceiling problems. I needed magic and he provided it.
