Custom Quality Roofing

We contracted Custom Quality Roofing to re-roof our home, due to the hail storm in March, 2017. They started to job on July 13, 2017. Everything seemed to be going OK until my wife came home from work and smelled gas and it was over 90 degrees in the house. The workers checked the attic and found that the air conditioner cover had come off because they were slamming the shingle packs against the roof had enough to knock off the cover. When the cover fell off, the air conditioner shut itself down. The roofers convinced me that there was no gas smell and my wife was over-reacting. The following morning the gas smell was more intense. We had Atmos come out and indeed there was a terrible gas leak. At that point we called the roofers. They acknowledged the leak, but did not suggest how we get it fixed. We had Tierney Plumbing analyze the problem for $235. They said there was a gas leak to the stove. They fixed the leak ($1600) and when ran the leak test, they found a second leak from the fireplace. We had them seal off the second leak and to this day it has not been fixed. We fully expected Custom Quality Roofing would pay for the repairs. We had the owner come over to our home and we showed him the invoices and told him there was a second leak. He just sat there with no reply. Finally I said, -what are you going to do about it. He said, I am going to create future contracts that state we are not liable for anything that happens during the re-roofing that is below the roof. He also said he had a plumber who could have fixed our leak for $600. I said, why didn’t you give us his information when we were looking for a plumber, and would you give his information to us? He said sure, I will have him call you, and we never heard back from him. I called the roofer 3 different times, asking what they were going to do, and the owner of Custom Quality Roofing said they had turned in all the paperwork and our insurance company should be sending enough depreciation money to us to pay for all of the gas leak repairs. My insurance company never received anything from Custom Quality Roofing. We cannot use our fireplace, we paid $1835 to fix a gas leak that the roofers caused, and would probably have to pay another $1600 to fix the 2nd gas leak. We have not received our deductable, which is $1295.55. So the total we have lost in this adventure is $4730.55.
