Award winning Bathroom Remodel | Nov 2014 | Project Goals When we met this client in their home, they were eager for a total transformation of their 1990s style bathroom. They came to Transitions Remodeling because they were also looking to partner with a company to develop a design that would allow them to age in place It was also important for the design to appeal to the next home owner and enhance the resale value of their home. The Design This project was perfect for implementing Universal Design principles that support aging in place. We started with a concept of a beach like/spa feel for the room. The homeowner shared a picture with a curved shower wall they liked and I fell in love with. I took my queue from there and designed a curved walk in shower with lighting elements that create a relaxing atmosphere from the moment you enter the room. I used soothing ocean colors on the painted wall and created our curved wall for the shower using a tile that looks like the beautiful beach glass you find walking the beach. The porcelain tile flooring is a soothing sand color which completes the scene. This was a very collaborative project. The client wanted a rock garden incorporated in the room. We created one just outside the shower which allowed us to install the perfect lighting element. The up lights actually serve as a night light which is a perfect safety feature as people age. The Result The before and after pictures tell the story. Our client was extremely happy we reached their original goals of: Providing them a Spa like bathroom Incorporating Universal Design with their new walk in shower, higher toilets, enhanced lighting. Adding to the homes appeal and resale value Adding to the enjoyment of their home! | $30k | Canton, MI | |
