Universal Design Dream Home

Feb 2014

Decor and You DC was contacted a few years ago by a local family who wanted to build a custom home with universal design features for their two children with special needs. The homeowners wanted to create a warm, calming, and functional environment for the family that felt like home. The priority was to incorporate the necessary universal design elements while ensuring that their home would not look or feel institutional or commercial. With elegant selections and special attention to details, the home turned out to be their dream home!

Reston Town Center Townhouse

Jun 2013

Our client's Reston townhome, located in the heart of Reston Town Center, had experienced significant water damage from a leaking rooftop deck. They knew that they wanted to repair those issues as well as redesign three of their bathrooms. The damage was extensive, and weeks were spent acquiring competitive bids from contractors, two of which weren't interested in tackling the potential plumbing issues. Once we found the right contractor, we were able to move forward with the repairs and the bathroom redesigns. The clients were so delighted with how the plans were moving along that they asked us to extend our decorating services to the rest of the home! Remodeled spaces include 3 full bathrooms (including a master suite), two decks, and a wet bar. Entire home was decorated.

Bright and Fresh Sitting Room

Feb 2013

One of the hottest color trends right now is Lemon Zest, a bright and cheerful yellow. We are very excited to share a recent project with you where we used Lemon Zest and Gray together to create a light and comfortable sitting room. Our client had a medium-sized office space in her home that she was looking to redecorate. The room had been unused for 15 years, and she had not decided if she wanted to use it as an office or a sitting room. After presenting designs for both uses, she chose to use it as a sitting room. We presented the color palette of Lemon Zest and Gray and she was intrigued, but somewhat hesitant as she thought it might be too trendy. To ensure longevity in the design we recommended traditional style fabrics while adding some contemporary design components.

Small Space Big Style in Washington, DC

Dec 2012

Multi-functional spaces and multi-purpose furniture is a necessity in small spaces. DC row houses are deep and narrow, so emphasizing scale and balance is critical.
