I only gave them one star because that's the lowest possible rating I could give them, but they do not even deserve that. The new "Management", is extremely unprofessional, unqualified, inexperienced and very deceitful. They pretend to know something about small engines, and when I brought my small engines back to be dived correctly, they lied to me about why they could not do their job correctly, and tried to charge me for parts that did not need replaced. Apparently it works on people that have absolutely no idea how small engines work. I have been going to C&D for 30 years because Mr. Charles has been a family friend and has always treated me well. Mr. Charles has now retired and C&D small engine is under new management, and I use the word management loosely. I have been operating a chainsaw for 42 years, and after this recent hurricane I have used my two reliable Stihl Chainsaws that I have had for about five years. I rarely use them, except to help other people. Both of my Stihl chainsaws have always ran very well, and have been very reliable. After helping many of my friends cut up approximately 14 trees, with absolutely no problems, Both of my chainsaws were still running very well, but I felt that I should take them in for a tuneup in order to keep them in peak performance. Upon my arrival at C&D, I noticed very many brand new Stihl factory replacement parts hanging up inside. I asked them if they were an authorized Stihl repair facility, and they told me "Not yet", which led me to believe that they were trying to acquire there Stijl Certification. They charged me approximately $100 to tune up both of my chainsaws. One needed a new handle, that I had priced around at two other authorized Stihl dealers and was told the part was $24. I asked them when I drop my chainsaws off, if they would be able to get a replacement handle for me, and I informed them of the price I was given by two other authorized Stihl dealers. I was told that they had an extra one laying around that someone had ordered and never picked it up. When I picked up my chainsaws, I saw on the bill that they had charge me $40 for the part that was $24 at the other two Authorized Stihl dealers. I paid the bill and took both my chainsaws back home. Approximately two weeks later, a friend of mine called and asked if I could bring my two chainsaws up and help him cut up several trees that had been blown down by the recent hurricane. This is the first time the chainsaws had been used since I paid C&D to tune them up. Both of them ran like crap they had no power when we tried to cut branches and they would not stay running. We ended up using the big saw to trim up small branches because we got tired of trying to restart the chain Sauls every couple minutes. I took the chainsaws back to C&D Small Engine Repair, and respectfully requested a refund. I was told that there was absolutely no way that I would be receiving a refund. I now understand why, because if they refunded money to every job that they messed up, they would be out of business by now. At that time the man in charge poured the gas from my chainsaw into a clear jar, and told me that I was not running the proper mixture. He told me that I burned the cylinder head and I explained to him that I knew enough about chainsaws to know that I had not burned the cylinder head. I informed him that I am very particular when I mix the gas and oil for my chainsaws. Still are now factory specified to burn a 50 to 1 ratio gas to oil. I use 48 to 1 ratio with the approval of AUTHORIZED STIHL REPAIRMEN. That assures there is more than enough oil to properly lubricate the motor. He also told me that the other one had a cracked cylinder head, and was loosing compression. He offered to replace the " BROKEN PARTS" and retune both of my chainsaws again, for additional money. They do not warranty their work and they tried to deceive me into believing that both of my chainsaws were mechanically broken, and he was going to charge me to "replace the broken parts", and that It had nothing to do with their mechanical inability. I then took both of my steel chainsaws down the street to Cooper and Son's, (910) 455-2000, located at 229 S. Marine Boulevard Jacksonville, NC 28540, who came highly recommended by a friend of mine that I have served with. Upon my arrival, a mechanics from the back, who had a very professional appearance. He took a look at both chainsaws, started both of them up and tried them out. He then assured me that both of my chainsaws were in perfect mechanical operating condition. No burned cylinder heads or cracked cylinders, like C&D tried to make me believe they were. He said that both chainsaws just needed to be tuned up CORRECTLY. He said that whoever tuned them up did a terrible job, and it would cost me approximately $50 a piece to fix what C&D Small Egines had done to them.
