D & R Custom Contracting

BE ADVISED! We hired Interiors Refined/ D&R Custom Contracting for a total home renovation, design was good but quality of work was very poor. They abandoned the job and are not trustworthy! Project to be 5-6 mo., 10+ mo. of construction later, paid over $350K = 96% of reno. charges, D&R submitted a “final invoice” and refused to return to site until paid. Without scheduling final physical walkdown reviewing any defects, project charges, removed us from project website without project handover documentation. Grossly over charging & providing results equivalent to a quick house flip. Didn’t maintain budget & timely updates, no note taking during walkdowns. D&R were dishonest about product cost & ordering,we were triple charged for product. Not labor, but product! At times D&R wasn’t onsite but once in ten days, Interiors Refined complained that she was overwhelmed, stating they didn’t work weekends. Many issues arose due to no supervision of low bid sub-contractors. Even w/ our own inspections, sending D&R photos validating defects, they refused to return to work out conclusion of the project. Visible sheetrock seams throughout the house,texture smeared flat at inside corners & cracked floor to ceiling. Painted w/ no cleaning, patching, sanding/bonding of joints/flaws. Door trim visible finger joint seams at 8-10” intervals, ~22ft baseboard had 15 visible finger joints, gouged baseboard corners w/ dirt & sawdust painted over,looks like an old used house. Composite woodgrain doors were cut off, leaving flared edges that are separating/chipping off. We had to hire our own inspections, where sheetrock was found to be loose w/ inadequate float/texture at seams. During repairs, inadequate spacing of fasteners uncovered under sheetrock tape, nails instead of screws on living rm wall & around beams. Beams to sheetrock seams separated, pointed out to D&R, they avoided the issue - no tall ladder available to inspect. Visible seams on sides of custom cabinets pointed out during a walkdown, Interiors Refined replied that they can’t do any better. Cabinet doors misaligned/uneven/warped 1/2”+ needing replacement. Rear-entry French doors not completed, W/D connections reversed. Glass shower enclosure gouged counter top covered up w/ caulk & plastic spacers. Kitchen&living area floor tile 7ft & 5ft long cracks. Kitchen backsplash agreed to white & neutral combination, w/o gray. Next day, grey tile was installed, Interiors Refined refused to change. D&R hired low bid crew that left without completing the job. Brick mortar left smeared,unpainted steel Lentils, Stones are an orange color (specified did not want), we asked for consistent cream color. Stone-encased front windows won’t accommodate design of full-length shutters, D&R refused to correct. Fireplace mortar crumbled/unfinished at mantel, & length of wall both sides. Masonry had multiple cracks that we had to have repaired. D&R charged for ~5pallets of excess Brick&Stone, & refused to remove from site. Now our ceilings are buckling. Three of the subcontractors have told us that they weren’t paid what was agreed when they were hired.

Their cabinet makers are superb and my new kitchen is unique.
