I had Devin do some serious plaster patchwork on a damaged ceiling and he matched it up great. I also had him paint my bathroom which looked beautiful. In addition, I had him do other handyman services such as hang several doors and replace a wall of siding, all of which turned out excellent

I contracted Devin with DC Painters and More several times to do work. Each time things went pretty smoothly, but on the most recent project Devin took two different deposits from our company and refuses to refund the money, even though the materials were never purchased. Devin took a deposit for flooring materials (that were never purchased, because they were never picked out), and when I asked if he would install a shower door for the same customer, he asked for another deposit. I was hesitant since we had already given Devin a large sum of money for the flooring materials, but decided to go ahead and send him another deposit because I trusted him. After missing appointments with the customer, failing to call the customer before to notify her, failing to call the customer after to apologize and set a new appointment, the customer decided against having Devin complete the work at her home. I reached out to Devin for 5 straight days hoping to figure out what was going on, and he wouldn't respond to me either. Finally, Devin responded back by stating that because I broke the contract (which we never signed a contract) by deciding not to work with his company, then he gets to keep the money! His exact words were "I don’t give back money so I guess your just screwed ". I explained to Devin that the money was for materials that were never even picked out yet, and the customer decided against contracting his company at this point due to missed appointments, bad communication, etc. I gave Devin ample time to return the deposits that were for materials, and he has refused. This is over $2,500 that Devin has taken, and I feel that all others who think about potentially hiring this company to use better judgement. We contracted him many times in the past, so if he doesn't have a problem taking money from us, who sent him business regularly, I imagine he won't have a problem taking money from anyone else. Now we are moving forward with the local authorities, contacting the state's licensing board and the BBB. It is considered theft when taking a deposit for materials yet never actually purchasing the materials. Not to mention we never signed a contract with the company.

Cox Home Remodeling, also known as DC Painters and More, is totally unprofessional, and I wouldn't recommend you let them build a dog house. We hired this company to do an extensive remodel for us, which they estimated would take about 5 weeks. It is now 6 months later and the project still isn't finished. The first sign of trouble was that Mr. Cox began asking for advances on payments even though the initial agreement was to pay him for the work once it was completed. Like clockwork, at the beginning of every month that he was at our house, he would pout, raise his voice, and evoke sympathy from us until we gave him an advance so he could pay his bills. It was uncomfortable and unprofessional at best. If this wasn't bad enough, the work he did complete before we finally had to fire him for not showing up and not guaranteeing work he had been paid for was sloppy and even dangerous. For instance, an outlet sparked and caught fire when I turned a light switch on; there are light switches that don't work; he failed to install HVAC vents included in the bid, overloading our unit and damaging the evaporator coils; the tile floor he installed in our shower leaks and the tile itself isn't laid down evenly; and finally, when he installed a bathtub for us, he nicked a water line that built up so much pressure, it shot a hole through the ceiling in our basement, flooding two rooms and damaging our possessions. We now have to pay someone to replace the ceiling and walls, as well as remove the black mold that grew under the floors and behind the walls because of Mr. Cox's carelessness. And if that doesn't convince you not to hire this parasite disguised as a construction company, more than a few things went missing while Mr. Cox worked here before we finally decided to install security cameras. Even having cameras around didn't keep Mr. Cox from stealing an electric weed-eater from us and selling it to a local pawn shop, meaning I've lost even more of my time and energy talking to the police to recover my property.
