Let me start by saying, I blame myself for having any involvement with Mike Powell Jr. and Powell Renovation and Design LLC. If I was better at my vetting process, I would have avoided all the headaches and the financial loss of $2200.00 in dealing with a residential construction and concrete professional scam artist. I met Mike through a referral of a fellow neighbor. The neighbor had work done by Mike 5 to 6 months earlier at his residence with no issues at all. So I grab the information and gave Mike a call. Very quick to respond and very eager to get the deal done, I told him not a problem at all... we can do it the following day at my property and I can give him the dimensions. Mike was under the impression we were going to lock-in a whole deal off of a handshake? I told him NO I would like to have a contract in place before anything else happens. Mike arrived Saturday with two other shady acquaintances and he presented me with a hand written contract. Michael informed me his assistant was stuck in the Bahamas because of the coronavirus lockdown and he not very good with computers.  Together we surveyed the property and reviewed the terms of the contract. We agreed he will start on Monday and he will submit his order to the supplier for the concrete. The transaction was made and I gave him a deposit of $2200.... And that's when all the BS began! I hit Mike up on Sunday night just to confirm that everything was a go and he went several hours with no response. Then finally around 9 o'clock he said he'll be there in the morning but could not give me an exact time! The following morning it was a 1130 a.m... No sign of Mike and his work crew. Complete silence for the whole day!.... I was sick to my stomach! Google the information of his company online and locate it and address of what was believed to be his business office. I drove 30 minutes out to a trailer park in Cobb County and I called for the police to meet me there. Because of staffing the police could not immediately send someone out unless I was in danger. So I filed a police report for "theft by deception." Tuesday night at 10 PM Mike text over a sob story about him getting robbed at the Knights Inn hotel. I told him no worries glad to hear that you're still alive and I would like to void the contract and get all my money back. He kept trying to reassure me he was going to show up and complete the job. I told him he had until 3 PM Tuesday to give me all my money. Or I was just going to make contact with my lawyer and lawyer up! After reading multiple negative one star reviews on the lack of execution and thievery by Powell Renovation and Design I saw it in my best interest to sever ties with this shady operation.... And even if he did complete the work many of his clients were not happy with the end results. I honestly feel there is something deeply troubling with this man for the fact that he is comfortable entering into various peoples homes taking money for services he had no intention of delivering. I do not hate Michael Powell but I do believe that he should pay for his crime... He is a very sharp and articulate individual and I fully believe he knows the difference between right and wrong. Please do not hire this company. I hired Michael to pour a small concrete slab below my deck. His price was to good to be true, which was a flag that I ignored, and now I out $700. His work was to be completed on 3/26 and he claimed he had a truck issue. Michael then said he would be on site 3/27 at 9am. Well it is 1230 pm and no show, no calls, no return calls, no responses to texts. I am pissed and shame on me for not doing the proper research. Please do not fall victim and do not hire. You will most definitely regret it and lose your money. If I were you Porch, I would remove them from your options.

Michael Powell was hired on December 30th to create a small patio underneath our deck because he quoted us a good price and promised that the work would be completed no later than the 6th of June. When it rained on the 6th, I was understanding about the delay. The following Monday, Michael poured the patio and promised that he was going to be at our house by 9:00 the next morning. But that didn't happen. He dug a trench halfway through our yard for the drain he promised to put in 4 days ago and has again disappeared. Yesterday, he promised that he would be here today, but it is 3:00 in the afternoon and he is not here. It is now the 26th of January, and the patio looks terrible, we now have to escort our blind dog in the yard because of the half-dug drain, and we have given him double the original estimate. I am going to have to take him to small claims court to get my money back so that I can hire someone else to fix the job Michael started. Since I mistakenly paid Michael for the entire job, he has not shown up or contacted me because he was sick, his mother was sick (she lives in St. Louis, so I don't understand why he couldn't work), his daughter was evicted from her home, his daughter was in a car accident and was maybe in a comma - ?-, His son was in a car accident, his employees took the truck and were unreachable, his truck was being repaired, his truck didn't run (after it was repaired-?), his truck lost a wheelbarrow off the back and smashed all over the road. None of this was communicated to me until I sent several (always unreturned) messages and eventually called him. Each time he as shown up at my house, it has been to pick up money or because I threatened legal action. Today, I finally heard from him at 3:20, telling me that he will be here as soon as his tire rod is finished. I think he has a 9 to 5 job and is doing this as a moonlighting gig because he never shows up until 6:00 in the evening at the earliest. He does not keep his word, but he is good at making promises. I assume that I am going to take him to court in order to get my money back. I regret hiring Michael for this job and wish I would have hired the more expensive contractor who would have done the job right in the time and price that they quoted me.

My experience with this company was an absolute nightmare! I would rate this company a zero if I could. Please, please. please do not allow this man, Michael, to swindle you out of your hard earned money. My wife and I paid a $750 deposit for a concrete countertop that we never received. I tried to contact the authorities but was told it is a civil matter. The truth is God is watching, and we are just out of $750. A truly awful experience! I cannot stress this enough, beware of this company.
