I am utterly disgusted with the level and quality of work and service provided by Immaculate Renovations and Repair. I was in need of a contractor to complete a bathroom renovation I had started, but ran into problems that I felt it would be best if a professional handled. Unfortunately, I did not get a professional with Joe Gosa. When Joe arrived Day #1, the entire bathroom demo was complete, with the exception of removing the tub/shower. Everything else was removed, and all materials were already on site. Day #1 of my experience with this gentleman was on a Saturday, in which he and his helper showed up at 11:30AM, and wanted half of the quote for deposit ($1275 deposit), and insisted he cash the check prior to starting the work. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, assuming he wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to stiff him. He didn’t show back up at my home until 1:30PM. The tools to begin the job were a cheap circular saw, cheap corded drill and a couple hammers and pry bars. Keep in mind, the job involved a tiling both the floor and shower surround, fixing the PVC drain pipe for the toilet as well as some copper line work. He showed up in a sedan, not the truck you expect a contractor to have. At the end of a day’s work (about 6:30PM), what was done was removing the shower, hanging cement board (before installation of the tub, mind you), and cutting out a small section of rotted sub-floor. Also, for the cement board, I purchased enough to run all the way to the ceiling in preparation for tiling and for water-proofing (Hardie Backer with moisture resistance), he didn’t even run the board up past the shower head and left the sheet rock in place (not proper). Upon closer inspection of the room, I also found my cordless drill in the room, which was used without my authorization and without him asking. Day #2, Monday, started with Joe arriving alone, catching a ride from someone, arriving at roughly 1:30PM in the afternoon. He had texted the night before he had a personal matter to deal with, and could not commit to when he’d be available to start the work. I also that morning received an expletive-laden text that was apparently sent to me instead of his son’s mother, by mistake. Upon his arrival, I addressed concerns I had with the work that was done that Saturday, insisted he follow the tub Installation Guide and addressed my cordless drill being used. I expressed concern that he put up cement board before nailing the tub flange to the studs, attaching the support structure the tub requires, and that the tub requires mastic underneath to support the basin. I was concerned that because of how low the cement boards had been installed, that there may not be proper clearance. I expressed concerns the cement board wasn’t past the shower head, and got “that’s just how I do it”. His response regarding the drill was “well you told me you had all of the materials here for the job”. I also addressed the concern that the PVC had not been repaired, and therefore, the sub-floor portion he replaced was more or less a waste since he needed to cut more floor up to do the repair. At the end of his work Monday (7:00PM), all that was done was additional cuts to the sub-floor (not even to the joist), put 3 supports up for the tub and glued together pieces of PVC he cut with a circular saw. Day #3, Tuesday, once again Joe was dropped off alone, at 10:00AM. I asked where his help was, he said “I will only bring in help when I need them”. I asked how much time he thought it would take to finish the job, “4 or 5 days”, when he had told me Saturday it was a 4 day job. Prior to Joe arriving, I measured the height at which he hung the supports for the tub, and they were ~ 18” from the floor, not the 16.75” required by the Installation Guide for the tub. It was at that point I indicated I no longer wanted his services. I insisted that $675 was a fair price for the work that had been done, and that I wanted a $600 refund in the form of a bank check, and he could pick up the tools when he came back. After multiple messages Tuesday and more on Wednesday, I have not received a reply from Joe. I am assuming that the tools at most are $100, and he’s ahead in the game and has no intention of refunding me any money. I am not one to write comments or leave reviews and such, but this experience was so bad that aside from being out $1275, there is no way I could not take some form of action to hopefully prevent this gentleman from doing this to others.
