dream+plan+create My designs are inspired by knowledge of materials, building practice, environmental context and a belief in sustainable design. I have worked for a decade as an architect and a combined eight years as a carpenter, cabinet maker and builder. I have combined my love of architectural design with my love of craftsmanship. The original definition of the word Architect meant Master Builder. Originally Architects were the designers, engineers and construction managers of a building but over time these skills were relegated to different entities. I believe that the practice of design building is a process that allows a harmony between the user and the designer resulting in beauty. Hill Top Residence | Sep 2018 | An existing old hill-top residence located in Jamaica Plain, Boston with a view of down town Boston. The residing family needed more room for their growing family but the urban site was small and non-conforming. After a year long variance process with the City of Boston, we added a third floor and deck and an addition in the front and rear. | $500k | Boston, MA
P-Town beach house equipment room | Jun 2014 | A enclosure room was created to contain the HVAC equipment. The house is a hillside residence that overlooks the sea shore and abutts national park land on Cape Cod. The materials were chosen for thier clean modern look. The walls were created from metal studs covered by twin walled polycarbonet plastic sheeting. This clear material was lightly sanded on one side to provide a screen for the equipment but also let artificial and natural light through. The curves of this partition were meant to compliment and existing spiral staircase. The door to the room is five feet wide and pivots off-center via a vertical steel pipe. | $2k | Provincetown, MA
Barriventaire Garden | Aug 2012 | A Japenese style fence and Gateway transform the alley entrance in a dense urban setting to a quiet garden padio and entrance for the residence. The fence is made from a vertical grain Western Red Cedar wood. A retaining wall was added and the existing porch was reconfigured. | Cambridge, MA |
