Whidbey Native Garden

Mar 2013

This is a native woodland garden planted in 2012. About 90% of the plants are native to the NW. The riverbed leads into a rain garden that catches all of the roof runoff from the nearby house through a PVC pipe buried under the rocks. This garden is planted on top of a septic tank, so we constructed lightweight rocks to cover the two lids. In a few years they will be covered in moss.

Potager Garden

Jan 2013

This garden is modeled after the French style Potager garden. It contains eight unique rusted steel beds fabricated by Oliana Gardening that are filled with herbs, fruit-bearing shrubs and trees including fig, olives and columnar apple trees, currants and gooseberries. The larger beds are bordered with Tuecrium chamaedrys, which is a great evergreen, drought tolerant, and small hedging plant. These beds will be used for vegetables.

Perry Project

Feb 2012

This garden is located in a very hot, sunny, front patio. The beds are styled after a cottage garden. Plant selection includes monkshood, delphinium, mullen, foxglove, alliums, campanulas, thrift, black eyed susans, stewartia, penstemon herbacsous peonies and tree peonies. There is also winter and early spring interest in this garden with a witch hazel, contorted quince, red flowering currant, anemones, crocuses, tulips, and cyclamen.
