Laminate tile instalation on a Contemporary | Sep 2015 | This project required all the plywood to be removed and new insulation to be added. The old Plywood was actually the wrong thickness (1/2) for the pitch of the roof and the rough winter we have in New Hampshire. It was replaced with the proper thickness (3/4) as well as making sure it was rated of exterior use unlike the previous material. We also do a full Ice and Water shield layer on the whole roof unlike the 4-6 feet that is required. This makes the roof quieter as well as making sure that in the winter with all the ice dams that can occur, it keeps the water from seeping in the roof. For the peak of the house, we custom made the shingle pattern as well as the shape. This let us put a much lower profile line while still allowing for proper ventilation. The customer sat down with me and selected a special order laminate shingle. These are very versatile shingles. While keeping their color and appearance through the years with a 30 year Manufactures warranty, they actually have a lot of flex in them to allow for the rapid change in temperatures we have in the North East. | $12k | Nashua, NH | |
Contemporary Split roof | Jul 2015 | This project posed a few challenges our way. First, the rear roof, the smaller of the two roofs. It was surrounded by trees which caused the moisture to build up and rot out the 27 year out plywood. When the shingles were removed from it, we also found there was no underlayment after 4 feet up and it was 1/2 plywood rather than the 3/4 inch that is recommended. The demo was not easy at all due to the actual home construction. The joists were spliced together halfway down, then again right before reconnecting to the house. The plywood was so rotten at spots, we could not step in the area. Also there was a wasp problem that had to be taken care of. Once the new plywood was down, the rest of the rear roof was quite easy. As you will see, it turned out beautiful. The front roof was interesting in itself. It faced a very open area that received sun for the majority of the day so the plywood was actually ok. The pitch was much steeper than the back so the 1/2 plywood was ok to stay. After stripping the shingles and pulling the nails, the Ice and Water shield as well as the shingles went very smoothly. When we came to the peak of the house, we custom made the peak to make sure it lined up with the lines of the house as well as the lines of the shingles. While these were special order shingles, there were just architecture style. I prefer architecture shingles to normal 3 tab because it gives the roof more depth and contrast. | $11k | Nashua, NH |
