I lived in a Hague Property building for several years now and want to leave a review so others may know firsthand about what it's like dealing with Matthew McCoy and their landlord style. Hague Property apartments are old units that are not updated in the slightest. The appliances in your unit will be straight out of the 1950's. If your stove goes out, they'll replace it with an identical unit from the 1950's. The risk of fire seems daunting when you know all the wiring is that old. So the units are dated but, as a condition of your lease, Hague Properties will usually pay for water, sewage, trash, and natural gas heating in the winter. While this sounds great, the natural gas heating is a source of frustration. Not every apartment receives proper heating to their radiators. If you notice a room getting cold, I recommend having a thermometer in the room and documenting the temperature every day with a timestamp so you can take them to court later. I have documented a history of one room being at 57°F for the entirety of winter. When it rains too much, they'll also shut off water to the building for days. I went as long as four days without water, long after the Norfolk sewers have drained. You pay for what you get in a Hague Properties building. The rent is relatively cheap for the area, with some utilities built in, but you're not going to be cooking on granite countertops like you would with a unit from The Element, or 201 at 21st Street, or The Belmont. If you can, I would suggest you strive for a better quality of life than what Matt McCoy and his company provides.
