  | Garage Door Torsion Spring Replacement | Sep 2015 | Here we have a sectional steel non insulated garage door with a broken torsion spring. The door has 2 springs and when replacement is needed one should replace all old springs with new. The most important part of a spring change is to have the correct spring. The garage door spring is calculated by the manufacturer to fit each doors weight, height, track type, drum size, cable and is specific to each product. In this case we have a 16' wide by 7' tall steel door that weighs about 170 lbs. The existing springs are .207 spring gauge by 1 3/4 diameter and 25 inches long. We will match the existing springs, trusting that they were originally issued correctly. To ensure proper operation of the overhead door system. The removal and re-installation of the new springs took about 45 min. and was a success. Our garage door is perfectly balanced and operates very smoothly. The door is placed on manual and operated by hand to ensure that the door works correctly. A perfectly balanced garage door should be very easy to open and close by manual operation. The door is placed half way open and should stay exactly in the position placed and not fall to close or fly up when opening. These new springs are estimated to last about 15,000 cycles.
