Nielson Finish Carpentry

Ken Nielson began his love for construction as a young boy working by his father's side on a variety of home improvement projects. Once he graduated from vocational/trade school training with a degree in Mechanical Drafting, he soon realized that this was not to be his future trade. It took his first full-time job with a local construction company to plant the seed of his love for all-around construction work. Ken, as any newcomer to a trade, started from the ground-up. He learned all aspects of the building trades, including concrete work, carpentry, drywall, insulation work and roofing activities. After years of working for other construction firms, he started his own company in 1991. This was the beginning of Nielson Finish Carpentry. Ken's love for the finish carpentry scope of work had its beginnings planted at this time. It was at this point that Ken refined his skills as a true craftsman and immersed himself in being a problem-solver when faced with complex jobs. He prides himself with being a "team player", as he frequently must weave his skills in with those of other tradesmen in the delicate balance of getting a job done in a timely fashion and with perfection. Ken prides himself with being a punctual professional, often arriving to a project early and fully prepared to begin his craft. He blends a fine skillset with a sociable nature and a dry sense of humor. To him, this is the essence of getting a job completed and being a true craftsman. Ken, his wife, Karla, and their 3 dogs love living the island lifestyle that living on Whidbey Island so freely offers. He looks forward to extending his skills and his craft to his neighbors so that they can enjoy having beautified and more functional home environments. To him, this is another way to meet and cultivate new friendships and be involved in his community.
