We’ve had an awful experience with Country Club Awning. The day that our two awnings were to be installed, their inept installation team drilled cockeyed holes into the soffit of our freshly painted house (which was in the midst of a renovation) as well as anchored a support pole to the facade in an attempt to hang the first awning, which, of course, was crooked. To rectify the problem, the two installers then tried bending the awning frame and pole to make it appear straight and level. We told them to stop and take the awning down. Upon removing the frame and setting it on the ground, we noticed a hole in the fabric on the awning’s facing. We then called CCA’s owner, Brain Lanning, who came out a few days later to assess the damage. Initially Brian was apologetic and amenable to rectifying the situation, telling us that this happened because his installation team had never hung an awning in this way and promising to pick up the awning frame and pole early the following week so that they could be repaired and repainted, and that the frame would be recovered. He also promised to handle our awning situation himself from there on out, including installing the awning. Brian also gave us his cell number so that we could communicate with him directly, instead of going through his office. In the meantime, we had our contractor repair and repaint the wood on the soffit and the plaster on the facade of our house in preparation for round two. The following Wednesday morning the awning and pole had still not been picked up, so we contacted Brian who proceeded to give us a hard time for calling him on his cell and told us to call his office. When we phoned Stephanie in the office, she told us that the awning frame and pole would be picked up the following afternoon. At 3:30pm on Thursday we called Stephanie to find out what was going on. She said that she’d check with the person doing the pickup and call us right back. She did not call back and when we tried reaching her, the office was closed for the day. When we phoned the next day, Stephanie said that they would arrange the pick up for the following Friday. At that point we told her that we had no interest in continuing to work with Country Club Awning and cancelled the order. To our great surprise, Brian’s son Nick arrived at our door the following Friday to pick up the awning and pole. We told him that we had cancelled the order and had no interest in working with their company. Nick was very apologetic and wanted to know what had happened. We ended up speaking with Nick for almost an hour. During that conversation he explained that his father had experienced a health issue the previous week and that he would make sure that we received a full refund on our deposit. Nick then provided us with his cell number so that we could set a time to pick up the refund check from their office. When we called the next week, Nick suddenly couldn’t remember who we were and told us that he would have to speak with his father about issuing the refund and would call back in an hour. Naturally we got no return call. When we followed up the next day, Nick said that they still wanted to pick up the awning and pole and complete the job. We said that we were not interested in moving forward and expected him to honor his promise. Since that conversation Nick has dodged our calls and the few times that he has answered his cell, he has hung up as soon as he realizes who is calling. This situation has left us frustrated and feeling that we have no alternatives besides leaving a negative review and exploring our options in small claims court.
