Washington Concrete Products, Inc., was founded in 1960 by R. Malcolm Sewell. Originally as a small concrete block manufacturer and mobile home skirting company located in Plainville, CT. As time went by, Malcolm realized there was a need for Pre-Cast steps as opposed to the single tread units they had been making.

We recently had our patio redone and the contractor that did the work purchased the patio material from Washington Concrete. The last day of the three-day job (which was a Friday), the contractor who did our patio did not receive the remining material from Washington Concrete that they had confirmed they would have by that date. The contractor informed us that Washington Concrete informed him that a truck broke down between New Haven, CT and Plainville, CT (where Washington Concrete is located). I decided to call Washington Concrete to try and see if there was any way of getting the remaining patio material delivered that day. The remaining material was a relatively small quantity of patio slabs and some stone edging. When I contacted the store, Jason (the son of the owner Richard) answered. I was not aware Jason was the son of the owner at that time, but without getting into all the detail, Jason was extremely bad-mannered, insolent and simply disrespectful to me. I asked to speak to the owner, and Jason informed me the owner (Richard) was busy. I asked if he could leave a message to have Richard call me back. When Richard called me back, he asked how he could help me. Again, not knowing he was Jason’s father, I began telling Richard about my experience a few minutes earlier speaking with Jason. Richard cut me off half way thru my sentence and basically started yelling at me saying it was “just life” that the truck did not deliver the material and then indicated how much of a problem it was for him with the truck not delivering the material. He was very irate and had no regard for customer service in this situation. I simply said have a good day and disconnected the call. I will never consider using this company again. It is clear they have a captured market with multiple contractors who do work for homeowners like us, and therefore have little patience / regard for the little guy; even when we are indirectly doing business with them.
