Joseph Smothers is a scam artist along with his "partner" Marcus Hicks, who owns "Oak City Contracting and Repairs". Marcus was contracted to build a front porch and an addition with side porch on my home back in October. We gave him a deposit, plus additional payments. Joseph took payments from us in his business' name on behalf of Marcus. When Marcus bailed on the project, Joseph stepped in and took us for more money he said was to pay sub-contractors. The check Joseph wrote to the sub-contractors was a bad check. When we asked for our money back he avoided and never answered us. Between him and Marcus we paid out nearly $8,000 and all we have to show is six holes for footers and a trench for the addition, which had to be redone because they were not to code. Both him and Marcus are now being investigated by Granville County Sheriff's office for a felony due to this matter.

From start to finish it was an absolutely amazing experience. The first thing that stood out was the constant communication that Joe provided. Anytime I had any questions he was very responsive and always went above and beyond to make the process painless and comfortable. Work was completed fast! We received our estimate the very next day with a few different options to choose from. It was obvious that the team there had spent some time on making sure they had a fairly priced and inclusive work process. Not only that they were professional and courteous each day! Kudos to Joe and his guys as it is obvious they take great passion in what they do. I highly recommend them for any job! Stand up crew!!!
