Coopers Home Renovations and Repair

I purchased my dream home property 5 minutes from downtown Raleigh in November 2019 and hired James L Cooper, owner of Cooper's Home Renovation. I signed a contract for renovation work for $44K. I paid 22K and purchased my own materials. He began demolition immediately back in November/early December but NEVER COMPLETED ONE SINGLE PROJECT in the home. He became unresponsive and combative. The home is complete disarray. Broken concrete, trash/debris, and half cut branches are littered throughout the exterior. The interior is basically a shell with partial flooring, disconnected HVAC and water heater system, destroyed ceilings and no plumbing. Certain parts of my property are exposed to the elements as he had ripped up ductwork leading to the roof. So when it rains, water drips into the inside. Becoming fed up, I issued a request in writing specifically spelling out the things that I wanted him to complete before moving forward (or performing these so-called "demolitions") on my property. The very next day, my video surveillance captured him destroying my brick front porch with a shovel. I also have him on video telling his sub contractor that I had only paid him 10K which justified him not completing the work....when in reality, I have paid him 22K. One of the concrete sub contracted revealed to me that he had only been paid $500 where as I paid a requested $3000 for concrete work. When I decided to terminate our contract, I requested a partial refund. He told me to talk to his lawyer. This company is deceitful, deceptive and destructive and I pray that this review will prevent other homeowners from facing my fate.
