Backyard Stream/ Water Feature with Xeriscape Landscaping | Jul 2015 | This large lot, semi-rural home was essentially a "blank canvas" when we were approached by the homeowners. The primary challenge was the creation of a long meandering stream (starting with an 8' mounded waterfall) all within an otherwise xeriscape environment. The successful marriage of the two design themes make this a notable landscape. In addition, the plans include a free-standing greenhouse, two bridges oer the stream, shade structure, fire ring with seat wall and a future observatory for dark sky star gazing. All together, the family and guests are provided with a wide range of outdoor activities and choice of different "places" to sit back and relax. | $100k | Dayton, NV
Xeriscape Front Yard, Outdoor Kitchen in Backyard | Jul 2015 | This new house included the front and back. We created a xeriscape front yard with a dry river bed with various rock sizes, boulders and a berm. The plant palette is a colorful blend of flowering shrubs and perennials. We also installed a water feature, fire pit and outdoor kitchen in the backyard that matched the existing pavers. | $30k | Carson City, NV
Expansive Backyard with Multiple Recreational Amenities | Jul 2015 | This complete re-design of an expansive, semi-rural open residential rear yard features a number of recreational amenities. This backyard includes two water features a "dog-legged" putting green and a re-purposed 16'x45' fiberglass pool with a rock boulder diving board. Other features include: a fire ring with seat wall enclosure and flexible entertaining areas for a large family which hosts a number of social events for the community. | $165k | Minden, NV
Mediterranean Backyard with Skyline Views | May 2015 | The original landscape/ hardscape had deteriorated over the past 20 years due to lack of proper maintenance. Our master plan began by the demolition of nearly all of the concrete paving, shade structure and planting beds. The overall concept was the creation of various "rooms," each with a distinct purpose. For example: food prep, general, and open entertaining -- all with a seamless flow into the pool area. The custom designed wood structure above the bbq area conceals LED lighting (task lighting). In addition to the bbq area, the lighting was kept at a minimal level in order to preserve the wide skyline views. | $60k | Reno, NV
An open backyard renovated to allow: shade, privacy, entertaining | Apr 2015 | The existing landscape was installed about 3-4 years ago. The owner wanted a separate sitting area for the family to hang out in the evenings. We installed a separate patio to the west complete with a fire pit, seat wall, pathway, and overhead shade structure. A pond-less bubbler fountain was installed next to the main patio to give a soothing sound opposite the main back entrance. The turf area to the east was leveled to allow the children to play. A retaining wall was installed to accomplish which also serves as a seat wall. | $40k | Reno, NV
Outdoor Living Space with Mountain Views | Feb 2015 | This established landscape needed some changes to create a unique outdoor living space. The existing patio was expanded out to give more room for the dining area. The expansive turf was broken up to give more interest and create separate outdoor living areas. A satellite patio with open seat walls is a great spot to view the mountains which can't be seen from the loggia. A natural dry river bed separates the two patios with a flagstone bridge. Trees also help make the satellite patio seem more private. Aspen behind the patio, screen the neighbors and provides more privacy for both without sacrificing the view. The pondless bubble fountain is soothing to the homeowner with nightlights for the evening. | $20k | Reno, NV
Naturalistic Water Feature as Backyard Centerpiece | Mar 2015 | This new home has a rear yard of over 6000 s.f.. The owners wanted to develop a complete landscape in one phase. The centerpiece of the patio is a 8' Dumortierite boulder. This material is no longer available due to its unique coloring and properties. Nevada is the only source of this material in North America. The boulder was set above the patio inside a block seat wall, and was carefully drilled to allow flowing water to cover all surfaces on all sides. The design intent was to give the feature a "floating" effect. The naturalistic boulder is lit from two directions which increases the illusion after dark. | $6k | Reno, NV
