HVAC and Duct Repair with insulation | Jun 2016 | The customer had just bought a completely remodeled house without getting it inspected. After the 2nd night in the home they were having extreme comfort issues, everyone woke up coughing, they noticed the system ran non-stop and was blowing out too much air. They called us to come look at the system and it ended up being bad news all around. HVAC system 1: The unit located in the furnace closet, evaporator coils were dirty due to typical wear and tear. The air vent supplying the living room was found to be blowing out excessive air. 2 of the bathrooms in the main area had no supply air HVAC system 2: The unit in the attic above the master bedroom servicing the living area, kitchen and master suite was a complete disaster - The blower motor was completely covered in sheetrock dust. - The return was falling apart to the touch. We could see through the return down into the living area - The evaporator coil was completely covered in dirt and dust - The supply plenum was rotting and very dirty - All the supply ducts were covered in dirt inside and out - The system was blowing out too much air and had only 3 supply air vents for the size of the system. The house also did not have insulation, stove vent wasn't attached, the skylight had no insulation, some electrical connections were somewhat exposed and much more. Install and Repairs: We replaced all the ducts for system #2, Rebuilt the supply and return plenums. We added 4 supply ducts to the system to help balance out the air flow. We then sealed all the ducts around every connection and boots to get a 5% air loss. We cleaned the inside of the unit, coil and blower motor. We added 10 in of insulation. We added insulation and foil radiant barrier to the skylight. We vented the bathroom vents and stove vent. We weatherized the house by changing out door weather-stripping and sealing around wall chases, plumbing penetrations and other areas of the house to reduce the air loss. We taped and properly sealed any exposed wiring we could find. | $7k | Irving, TX |
