Carlos Martinez walked off the job with 50% of the work incomplete with 66% paid upfront for a 450sqft tile job. I'm out money for labor and supplies, 3 weeks adjusting my work schedule for him to do his job uninhibited. He nickle and dimed me for an overpriced job for shotty work. As an example, he bought the wrong paint for the paint job and ignored his painter for a whole week-- I ended up buying the right paint just to keep things moving forward. His excuse for not starting on the flooring when he said he would was that the paint job was incomplete. Honestly, i suspect that he was trying to buy time while working on another job. Carlos never on time and blew me off and his workers several days so he could go work another 2,500 sqft job he said he had. It was very evident when he kept taking workers off my job to go do others. His initial contract was a text message. I made him put it in email, which he simply copied and pasted. We edited the paper I printed and worked from that. There were many details lacking, but he insisted that he understands what he needs to do and doesn't need to be spelled out since he's been doing it for 30 years. Turns out, the paper I provided is THE CONTRACT and pointed out how it didn't include all the "favors" he did for me. Do not make the same mistake. If you go with him, get a real contract with legal terms for recourse. Otherwise, just choose someone else more professional and well equipped.
