So before I start this review, I should say that I'm a tradesman as well. I am a mechanic by trade and training, and I do home renovation projects as a hobby. I'm quite handy, and have a good understanding of the manual labor business. With that said...Alberto and his team has brought severe disappointment to our household. I will say, it was my miscalculation that I ended up in the time crunch I was in. With a little over a week before move-in, I realized that I needed a professional. I called Alberto (Sep 20th) for an estimate. He came within an hour of my call (amazing). He evaluated everything and said he would give me an estimate for doing the entire condo, and for doing the bedrooms/hallway only (I wasn't sure how much money we had to pay professionals). A KEY PIECE OF INFO: While Alberto was measuring and chatting with me, I was painting walls. He saw me using a paint roller to lay paint on all the walls. He promised an estimate by evening. I asked, "Is it possible to have this done by next week? Can you start tomorrow? We move in next Sunday (September 29th), and I'd like a few days to paint the ceiling and cover a few other things." He said, "It'll be tough to start tomorrow, but definitely Monday. We start Monday and lay a thick coat. Thick coats take time to dry, so we may not be able to sand Monday itself. So say we come in Tuesday, and then we sand the base coat, then we apply the finishing coat. If the finishing coat isn't dry by Tuesday night, we'll come by Wednesday to make sure everything is even, and then we sand the finishing coat. If something goes wrong, it may carry into Thursday, but that's the latest". Regardless of cost, I was willing to sign up. The estimate to do the work was about $3,100 (Our condo is about 1,300 sq ft). I know the price was pretty steep, considering the condo was completely empty and I already scraped off 70% of the popcorn...but I was between a rock and a hard place. I finished painting the bedrooms, closets, and hallway. Also, since Albertos team was supposed to be done by Thursday at the latest, I scheduled floor installers to install half of our LVP floors on Friday. I started a new job Monday (Sep 23rd), so I just left the condo open and checked in every evening. When I showed up Monday evening, all I saw in the condo was buckets of Joint Compound (You can get these 5 gallon buckets from Home Depot @ $16.00/bucket). There were maybe 15 of these buckets, and that's it. No work was done. I texted Monday morning and said, "Hey, what's going on? Are we still gonna have this done before the end of the week?" Alberto assured me that they were still on schedule. I came by after work on Tuesday, and it looked like a ton was done! A lot was cleaned up, and a bunch of the thick coat was applied. The popcorn that I didn't scrape, they scraped (not as well, but it was scraped). Wednesday....very little was changed. I suspected that the thick coat was still drying, and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I figured if they put the thin coat on Thursday, they would sand Friday, they could work around the floor installers, and I would still have Saturday to paint. Thursday came, and sure enough the thin coat was applied. Friday came, and halfway through the day, I got a text from Alberto saying, "we're coming in Saturday to finish". Saturday came, and I wanted to work on the ceilings, but Alberto's team never came. I got another text saying they would come in Sunday to finish. Except Sunday was moving day...problem. With the help of many friends, we moved our townhome into the condo and into a storage unit. Throughout the day, no one from Alberto's team came to do any work whatsoever. If you're following, you'll now take note that our belongings are now in the condo. I texted Alberto with displeasure saying, "hey, we've moved in. How are you going to deal with this?" He assured me that he would still have the job cared for. So through the week his team shows up. They make an absolute MESS. Our new floors get covered, they leave slag (chunks of joint compound that fell off their knives). The walls I painted were ruined, and they didn't even do a good job on finishing off the surfaces. Very uneven spaces, still popcorn visible in some areas. This is what really pissed me off: Alberto denies any wrong-doing. He no longer admits to an agreed upon timeline, he said, "you shouldn't have painted before getting the work done" DESPITE HIM SEEING ME PAINT. He denies that the mess is of his worker's fault, and should've been expected. Two weeks after the initial promise date, his team finishes. It's still not 100%, but I was so tired of dealing with them that I said it was fine enough. He gave me a $200 discount for "the headache", but this quality of work and customer service was hardly worth $1,000. TL;DR - They communicate poorly, do not do good work, don't take responsibility, and can't keep a timeline.
