Claudia Juestel, founder and principal of Adeeni Design Group, was born in Austria into a family of artists, craftsmen and musicians. Classically trained in drawing, painting, sculpture, cooking, hotel management and interior design, in 1999 she formed Adeeni Design Group, which specializes in high-end residential and small commercial interiors with projects throughout the country and abroad in London, England, New Delhi, India and on Guam. Known for navigating between modern and traditional with exceptional ease Juestel and her team infuse interiors with a sense of comfort, richness, warmth and timelessness through a cosmopolitan approach to design. Juestel's adaptability to various forms of architecture and design and her understanding of scale and proportion come as a clear result of her varied education and upbringing. Working in a variety of styles it is the firm's philosophy that designers can break away from a signature style, and that each home should perfectly reflect the owners' individual lifestyles. The approach is more that of set designers, which results in each project becoming its own original piece of art, created in close collaboration with the clients. Services Provided Interior Design - We are a full service firm providing research, design concepts, space planning and design for residential projects including kitchens and baths, as well as small commercial projects. Custom Design - We design everything from millwork, furniture, rugs, window treatment and lighting to fabrics, accessories and hardware. Canela Bistro & Wine Bar | Oct 2013 | The owners of Canela Bistro & Wine Bar asked Adeeni Design Group to redesign the restaurant after 2 years in business. | San Francisco, CA
Cow Hollow Edwardian | Jan 2013 | We were asked to redesign the outdated and impractical kitchen, and update the living room, breakfast room and family room. The clients wanted a traditional, but fresh look. We redesigned the kitchen to make it more functional and provide more accessible storage, added cabinets to the breakfast room and reconfigured the cabinetry in the family room, created a new color palette and added new furnishings throughout. | San Francisco, CA
Presidio Residence | Jan 2013 | We worked with Sutro Architects on this sustainable design, for which the team was awarded the Build It Green Award. The Edwardian house is the new home of a young family who moved from Seattle to San Francisco into an Edwardian home behind the fog belt, and they were yearning for color. We added fresh and bright colors to all the rooms, playing with the contrast and the balance between warm and cool while prominently displaying wifes favorite color orange throughout. The clients also wanted to keep the architecture traditional, but have the furnishings more transitional comprised of an eclectic mix of vintage and custom pieces with an artistic bend. | San Francisco, CA
Historic Mansion | Jan 2013 | A couple with small children had their eye on the desirable Diablo Country Club area for a while. When the most prominent home came on the market they wasted no time to make an offer, as large homes are rare in this small town, and the house’s history is incomparable. Built upon an 1879 stock farm, which was originally called the “Railroad Ranch”, as its owners were the Big Four of the Central Pacific Railroad, Leland Stanford, Mark Hopkins, Charles Crocker and Collis Huntington, the structure was expanded on over the late 19th century in an Italianate style to its current grand scale. From the 1920 through the 1940s it was the clubhouse of the Diablo Country Club, which the owner Larry Curtola converted into his own private residence because he loved beautiful architecture. He purchased marble, paneling, the fireplaces for the living room, library and dining room, as well as new posts from the famous Cowell Mansion in San Francisco, which was being demolished. He also added the brick to the ground floor, which was originally wood like to upper floor. During its hay days as the clubhouse of the Diablo Country Club the mansion was frequented by San Francisco and Piedmont socialites, being the place to go in the East Bay. There also is a rumor that J. Robert Oppenheimer, Ernest Lawrence and Edward Teller had private meetings in the dining room while drawing diagrams on tablecloths, which may have been the initial plans for the atomic bomb. Only magical memories of the mansion’s illustrious past remain in some of the wonderful architectural details. While we wanted to pay homage to its grand history we also aimed to create a design fit for a modern family who appreciate tradition. We layered the design with color and interesting pieces from around the world. We not only custom-designed many furnishings and mixed them with antiques, we also traveled to India to commission several rugs, tables, lamps and decorative objects. And for the husband’s collection of wine and to entertain his friends we carved a man’s gathering place out of the home’s basement that combines the ambiance of a speak easy with the rustic charm of a late 19th century cellar. Whether upstairs or downstairs, this is a cosmopolitan home that seamlessly blends European traditions with exotic elements from the Middle East, India and China, designed for living casually and luxuriously at the same time | Diablo, CA
Pacific Heights Apartment | Jan 2012 | The clients asked Adeeni Design Group to completely remodel their two bathrooms and converting one into a combination of home office and bathroom. | San Francisco, CA
Mavelous Coffee & Wine Bar | Jan 2010 | The concept for the interior of Ma-Velous was inspired by cafes the location, right in San Francisco's Civic Center, in the heart of the city. The area is not only home to the city?s and state?s government buildings, it is also rich in culture. The War Memorial Opera House, the San Francisco Ballet, Davies Symphony Hall, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and the San Francisco Arts Commission are minutes away. The San Francisco Public Library, Asian Art Museum, the Art Institute and Orpheum Theater are within two blocks, and the Golden Gate Theater and the Warfield within walking distance. This proximity to the arts inspired the overall design of Ma-Velous. The eco-conscious design celebrates the local arts through its design and the involvement of a number of local artists in the design of the space. In an aim to create an elegant space with sustainability in mind we based our palette on the rich colors of coffee, which range from the green fruit maturing into a golden yellow and then into a bright red, and a dark espresso once the beans have been roasted. The long and narrow room was divided into a Syphon bar, a small library section, cafe seating, and a small lounge area. We retained the original tall wood wainscot, stained it with an eco finish in a dark espresso, and matched the wood partitions to the wainscot, topped with clear orange Lucite panels, which were laser-cut in a design representing movement. The library?s bookcase was designed by Adeeni Design Group in a seemingly haphazard pattern of rectangles, and the banquettes are filled with soy-based foam and covered in faux red crocodile. The tables with walnut tops from a single fallen California walnut tree are paired with red acrylic and aluminum chairs. In the spirit of re-purposing vintage pieces a mid-century sofa and a couple of vintage barber chairs invite guests into the lounge, an All Steel credenza serves as the condiment station, and all light fixtures and the bathroom mirror were made from alls sorts of cast-off materials. Eco floor tiles were installed with eco grout, and paints are all low VOC. The custom benches outside are made from recycled aluminum. The piece de resistance is a commissioned painting by cutting-edge street artist Eddie Colla that spans the entire length of the restaurant. Much attention was paid to creating a green design that is both timeless and chic and celebrates local creative talent. | San Francisco, CA
Union Square Co-Op | Jan 2010 | The corner apartment is on the 7th floor of 17-story coop high-rise built in 1926 by developer Joseph Greenback and designed by John C. Hladik. The Tudor Revival style building has a very New York feel, and was built by Joseph Greenback aimed specifically at the members of the famed Bohemian Club half a block away whose roster includes some of the most powerful men in the country. Its beautiful architectural details include a stunning lobby, a roof deck with amazing city views, and beautiful arched doors throughout. We took a high-low approach to the design by combining unique custom furnishings she designed with valuable antiques and flea market find. In response to San Francisco’s cool light resulting from the frequent fog the palette is warm and rich. To reflect her passion for the exotic she added details from all over the world, including art and artifacts from Africa, China, India, Tibet, Thailand, Korea and Japan. This mix of many cultures, layered with old and new, results in a cosmopolitan chic that is timeless and inviting | San Francisco, CA
