Unlicensed contractor, took weeks to produce an invoice, several attempts to contact by phone or text, left job unfinished. We hired Walton Home Repair for a kitchen and living room remodel. Bill Walton stated that he was a licensed contractor. The verbal quote for the job was $35,000 to $40,000. I received nothing in writing, neither an estimate nor a contract. After the job stated on April 23, 2015, there were some unexpected difficulties with removing a wall and tile floor causing a time delay; however, everyone was in agreement. Knowing that these issues would place an increase in the budget, I helped by removing debris myself and purchased ceiling fans, lighting, paint and other items. After Walton Home Repair was paid $32,000, I asked Bill for an itemized receipt. I continued to pay him without a receipt otherwise he was going to stop working. I had to keep asking and weeks later I received a list of work completed and a total bill of $41,000. I have never yet received an itemized bill, so I don’t know what the cost of the materials truly were. He verbally stated how much the big ticket items were, but I have no way of knowing how accurate those numbers were. I paid Walton Home Repair a total of $37,500 before I fired them on July 15, 2015. Bill demanded that I pay the balance of the job before he would complete the job. I was out of money because of the other expenditures that I previously mentioned. I asked him about a payment plan for the balance of $3,500, which would be paid off in only 2 months. Since he refused to complete the job, I have to live in a mess every day. There are wires hanging out of the ceiling, a live electrical outlet that is hanging in mid air, unfinished painting, unfinished trim work, the oven hood is not installed, and no back splash. During the last 4 weeks on the job, Bill became unreliable. He may or may not have shown up for work as I had entrusted him with a key to my home. He went from working full days to partial days or not at all. It became a hassle as I had to repetitively call him in order for him to show up. For example, he told me that he would work on a Saturday and Sunday in order to catch up, but he never came. After several phone and text attempts, he said he would be there the following Monday. On the last day, he was supposed to finish a door jamb but once again, never made good on his promise. Now I’ve had to hire a reputable contractor to finish the job. Bill Walton can’t be trusted and I would never recommend him to anyone. He also stated he was a licensed contractor but I can find no record of his license number in the county and State of Florida which turns this into a legal matter now as the prior work was done illegally.
