Established in 1999, CAST architecture is a small firm specializing in modern design and sustainable practices in the Northwest. Our design work has been featured in many publications, such as Fine Homebuilding, and were recently selected as one of the top young architecture firms in the Northwest by the Seattle AIA. CAST architecture brings broad expertise and an integrated team of consultants and contractors in a creative collaborative which fuels innovative design solutions for specific challenges, budget and site. Our work is vibrant and expressive, yet very pragmatic. The success of our projects can be measured by the improved quality of life our clients experience through the transformative power of a great design. CAST began as a design/build firm, and our roots as a general contractor ground our work in the practical realities of putting a building together while demanding high craftsmanship on a budget.

A lengthy and thorough review of many Architectural firms was undertaken to entrust building a home from scratch for my family and me. Now that the project is nearing completion, I can, with 100% confidence, state that CAST Architecture was the right firm for the job. Why? CAST listens and is not afraid to make suggestions. CAST has established relationships in all of the right places that allow the job to proceed smoothly. CAST views the project as a total team effort, from start to finish. Stefan and Matt were always available for even the most minor detail work. Their creative approach to design and functionality has truly made the difference in making this home spectacular.

Mazama Ranchero | May 2014 | Nestled at the edge of a subalpine meadow in the upper Methow Valley, the Ranchero is a base camp for year round outdoor adventure and a social hub for gatherings of friends and family. The plan emphasizes simplicity, abundant natural light and a strong connection to the surrounding peaks and adjacent aspen grove. The public wing features an open floor plan with an expansive patio that sets the stage for relaxation and socializing. A simple material pallet focuses on highly durable, low maintenance solutions such as Cor-ten steel siding, aluminum clad windows and a concrete skirt that protects the structures base during the winter snowpack and spring snowmelt cycle. The deep veranda, oversized entry and ski wax room provide family and guests a functional landing zone between activities. Built at a modest scale with super insulated walls and ceilings, energy efficient windows and systems, the home is intended to minimize energy consumption. The home is designed to take advantage of passive solar heat gain in the winter while minimizing solar heat gain in the summer. | $580k | Mazama, WA | |
