Urban Basecamp | Aug 2012 | With just 2 bedrooms/1 bath, this modest 1950’s tract house was space enough for this couple to keep their life uncomplicated while stationed in-town between their many outdoor adventures. But as lovers of pared-down efficiency and its inherent design beauty, their home needed work! Capitalizing on its mid-century-modern potential, walls and fussy trims were removed; the house now breathes large with light-filled, contemporary-hip spaces and edgy details! A mere 1,336sf functions beautifully and feels spacious! | Juanita, WA
Lopez Island Retreat | Dec 2011 | This new home in the San Juan Islands sits on a lovely rural property with low-bank waterfront. The architecture responds to the site: one approaches through the trees to the front porch, then once inside the house, views open up to the water beyond. Southern sunlight faces the front side of the house, hence the lifted roof with clerestory windows to get light deep into the interiors. Our design is very simple and pure: a Northwest contemporary cabin with Japanese influences. Deep overhangs, clear and simple structural components, and natural materials throughout impart a warm and welcoming feeling, yet modern and very functional. | Lopez Island, WA
Mid Century Sanctuary | Nov 2011 | Remodeling this 50’s rambler entailed refreshing the main floor, plus addition of a 2nd story Master Suite; all designed in a minimalist aesthetic to heighten the lush, retreat-like experience of the site. Diffuse light floods in from high windows, filtering in and around open spaces, and through frosted glass wall panels. The result is serene and meditative – perfect for this bedroom aerie, and befitting the new-found beauty of this mid-century classic. | Seattle, WA
Queen Anne Foursquare` | May 2009 | Home to a young, active family, our intention was to open up the warren of rooms to better accommodate an informal, family-friendly lifestyle. An addition allowed for a big new mudroom that provided entry into a large, open kitchen and family room. Upstairs we converted two of the four bedrooms into a master suite with a home office. Artful detailing respected the tradition of the house, yet was whimsical and contemporary at the same time. | Seattle, WA
