Edible Rain Garden + front Yard overhaul

Nov 2015

We tore out all grass in front yard and replaced with a rain garden with most of that cost covered by the rebate from Seattle Public Utilities "Rainwise" Program. In and around the garden are edible berries including huckleberries, black lace elderberry, serviceberry, strawberries, daylillies, and a ton of culinary herbs like lavender, sage, rosemary, and thyme. On the non rain garden side, we anchored with two small trees that will take time to fill in- Witch Hazel and Japanese maple, and planted an edible hedge row of sea buckthorn, currants, and jostaberries. Clients requested a short friendly fence, and went with a cedar split rail fence stained with linseed oil.

Greenwood Bungalow Hardscape and Softscape

Aug 2012

We tore out a failing front yard retaining wall and driveway, re-building the public-facing walls with drystack, and the purely functional retaining walls out of cast concrete wall blocks. We did the driveway with permeable pavers, planting over 2000 tiny little plants to occupy the void spaces. We also tore out the entire back yard, starting afresh with a mix of edible fruit trees, perennial edibles, drought tolerant and ornamental plants. We installed a 2-zone drip system and controller. Overall this project was something like 20 tons of hardscaping.
