Uprite Construction

This man came recommended by a local real estate agent. He passed himself off as a licensed contractor and electrician with workman's compensation and liability insurance. We agreed to a 3-4 week major home renovation at about 25-30k. I gave him a 30% down payment. He committed to start work the following Monday with a full crew, and work full time each weekday until the job was done. Nothing was done for more than 2 weeks after I paid him. After nearly 10 weeks of frustration and less than 50% of the job complete, we fired him. We were extremely patient, far too patient. In total we paid him just under 18k and got far less than we expected for our money. Now he is threatening to lien our home for $1900 he says we owe him. There is no record of a contractor's or electrician's license in NC. He uses only unskilled labor. His attendance was extremely inconsistent and part time at best. There is no communication. We are now in the process of undoing and repairing the poor electrical work, sheet rock work, and much more. The 4 windows he installed had to be completely removed and installed correctly. The sliding glass door he delivered 6 weeks late is badly scratched, etc. Please beware.
