This is a terrible contractor. BEWARE! He doesn't finish the jobs in an organized manner. He works scattered. Several jobs going on and not one completed or completed properly. He argues and gets angry when you tell him that you want something done other than the way he's doing it. He rushes the job and he told me a story about a lawyer not paying him because the lawyer said he finished the job too fast. I couldn't understand why someone wouldn't pay you for finishing the job too fast if the work was good but know I know why. This guy is a terrible carpenter. His cuts are inaccurate, jagged and chiseled. He promises many things but does not deliver on them. You sign the contract for specific work then after the contract is signed and after you pay him, he tries to change things by taking shortcuts or not doing the job at all. He f'd up our: Concrete Patio (It looked like it was 10 years old on day one) (Blotchy color, not level, water pools in certain spots, rough edges) Wood Deck (Inaccurate cuts, poor design, old deck wood used, not level) Limestone Retaining Wall (All he did was stack them in a chaotic manner - the wall looks terrible and it's not stable) Wall parging (He didn't completely parge the wall as contracted then he wanted to charge more money to do it the way it should have been done - BREACH!) Basement window install (He installed three new windows in the back of the house. The middle window is about eight inches closer to the left window than it is the right window. They are not spaced equally and he reinstalled the water faucet crooked) Painting (He didn't sand the house smooth in the areas that I contracted him to do. I even had to let them use my sander because he didn't have one) He borrowed my two hand saws, took them away from my property and never returned them, even after being asked to return them on two occasions) There's a lot more that I can tell you but to top it all off, he's trying to sue me for breech of contract after I already paid him almost $14,000 of a $17,800 contract. With everything he did, it's only worth about $3,000 because the deck needs to be torn down and rebuilt, 1. because it's not built right or to my original specifications and 2. because he didn't replace the sheathing, clapboard and flashing that he was contracted to replace before he built the deck and the concrete patio. This guy is a joke! Even his mother said he's not a good contractor, that's what he told me after the fact. I thought it was a joke and funny at the time but now I see how true his confession was. He's suing me for $5,000 which would make almost $19,000 for trash! I'm starting a blog on facebook called Henry R Restoration Botched Jobs. I will be posting his work so that you can see how terrible it looks.

I hired Henry R Restoration to renovate our home. I gave him detailed and specific instructions of how I wanted things to be done. I explained and he could tell that I was a very detailed person. Right from the start, I should have seen all this coming after he constructed our limestone retaining wall. It looked terrible! The rocks are just thrown on top of each other with no sense of order. The three basement windows that he installed are not equally spaced and they are installed in a sloppy manner. The wood deck that he installed has deck screws poking through in several places, the cuts are jagged, several of the joist were installed WITHOUT HANGERS, the deck step is sloped / not level, the lattice base and trim looks like crap, a footer looks like it’s leaning and it’s not well designed. The concrete patio is the worst! The edges are jagged, it’s not level, water sits in at least three areas of the patio and the brown color that was added looks like it wasn’t blended properly. The wall parging that he was supposed to do wasn’t completely done properly before painting the wall so the entire side of the wall is mis-matched. He was supposed to sand or strip the paint from the front and side of the house before painting so that it would be a smooth finish and they neglected to properly sand or strip the paint so it doesn’t look like I wanted it to look. He didn’t install sheathing that needed replacing before installing the deck and the patio, leaving several openings at the bottom of the house allowing rodents to enter our basement. Mr. Henry would say that he wanted us to be satisfied with the work but when we complained he would make an excuse or get upset. He can be a nice guy and we liked him very much in the beginning but he doesn’t know how to treat or deal with his clients in a professional manner. He would also say that he was going to do something, like add rebar to the concrete patio but when he did the job, he didn’t add any rebar, only mesh and he only added the mesh to one half of the patio; making an excuse that the other side didn’t need it. He cut many corners on my project and I got to a point where I had enough and suspended his work and the contract. There’s much more I can tell you and you that would make you question whether to hire this contractor or not but I’ll save that for a possible later date. His references will tell you that he did a good job but ask yourself, what contractor will give the contact information of someone that he knows is going to give him a bad reference! Hire HENRY R RESTORATION at your own risk! Don’t say I didn’t try to tell you!
