I would never use Against the Grain Finishing again. I had them strip and paint a bedroom set that was over 50 years old. There are runs in the paint and globs of paint in places, lines that got filled in with paint, and many unfinished pieces. We had to pick it up in two trips with a trailer and my car. Several of the pieces were very heavy. When we got it home and taken up a tight flight of stairs is when we noticed all the issues. They said they would fix everything if we brought it all back to them. That would have been an immense amount of work and time to take back almost every piece since there was something wrong with most everything. A neighbor of mine offered to fix the missed areas for $300 so I wouldn’t have to take it all back. Against the Grain Finishing refused to give me back even $300 of the $2,500 they charged me to have someone finish and fix their work. In the process of loading up a few of the pieces to take back, my disabled, veteran husband reinjured his knee and then our trailer broke down on the way over. We had to return home. Even after sharing this with them they were unwilling to send me back the $300 to have someone else finish their work. They never once offered to come over to my home and finish it. I have since paid my neighbor the $300 to finish the painting but there was no easy way to fix the runs and globs of paint so I’ll have to live with that. This is furniture that my parents bought me when I was born and used by my daughter that was killed by a drunk driver. I feel like they ruined it. I would not recommend them to anyone. I need to give more consideration to pursuing legal remedies.
