When we head out for a free inspection, we dont always know what we will find. In this instance the system was in relatively good condition and only needed some maintenance. Some designers will leave heads exposed, above ground and only rely on the pipe to keep this head vertical. This is poor design and will always fail, its just a question of how long. Exposed heads should always be supported to ensure that the head remains in its intended (usually vertical) position. When these heads are not properly supported they will eventually tip and begin to place excessive force on the relatively weak connection at the bottom. The result is first a tipped head and eventually a head whic has snapped off at the base.

A new homeowner called us out to help them better understand the irrigation system in the home they had just purchased. When we got there we were shocked at how well the old timer had held up! This timer dates from the early 80s and it was a pretty sophisticated little machine, in its time. We have come a long way though and the new timers from Toro are way ahead in user interface and the ability to conserve water. We installed a new Toro Evo controller and Toro ET Weather station. This upgrade allowed for more flexibility for the homeowner and will likely save 30% or more water due to the improved technology!
