After knowing someone else who used Camelot inspections, we decided to give them a call for our home inspection. I wish we had done more research first. The inspector seemed very knowledgeable and helpful at the time, but was inaccurate in multiple assessments. This led to us paying an additional inspector to asses our basement and a significant bill after having to fix a mold issue in our attic that the inspector did not catch. We found out the problem a few months after buying the house after having an energy assessment completed by one of our utility companies. When the assessor was going to complete an air test, he looked up in the crawl space and said that he suspected we had mold so he would not be able to do the test. We then asked him how he knew and also showed him our inspection report from Camelot. His response was that we should google "mold in attic" and we would see the same picture as what we showed him from our report. Since he was not an expert he recommend having a few mold removal companies come out to confirm. After having 2 other companies come to look in our crawl space, they immediately called it out and then asked multiple questions trying to understand how an inspector would not have caught it. They even asked if Camelot looked in the crawl space, or if the owner selling the house knew the inspector. One of the guys even said that it was as obvious as "looking at a brown lawn and saying it was healthy". Upon contacting Camelot, they took no ownership or responsibility, saying that we did not pay for mold testing. Something to note is that there is a check box on their assessment that says Evidence of Mold. This box was checked No for us. So probably like any first time buyers, we thought there was not any mold, so what was there to test? I didn't need a mold test to understand the type of mold. The fact was that there was mold and it was not called out by the inspector that we paid to tell us what we needed to be concerned about with the house. Honestly, all I expected was the cost of our inspection to be returned to us for such a huge mistake and additional bill that we had to pay after buying the house. Do yourself a favor and find another company out there. I wish we had. ------------------------- In response to Camelot Home Inspections comments below: -Saying that you offered a Mold Remediation Specialist is not correct. This is what was sent through email "The buyers had the opportunity to have any potential mold evaluated when they had their specialist in for water intrusion and moisture intrusion from the bathroom." That is putting the blame on us when we hired your company for what we thought was expertise. -The inspection report says "Evidence of Mold" with two options next to it, "Yes" or "No". The "No" bubble is filled in, and therefore any reasonable person reading the report would not think there is mold. We did not know there was a mold issue, because your inspector told us there was not a mold issue. - Are you willing to stand behind the work of your company and provide a refund due to this mistake? We had to pay more than twice the cost of the inspection to fix the issue that we would never have paid for if it was caught prior to us buying the house. - Taking ownership for the mistakes that are made are how companies stay in business and receive positive reviews. If I receive a positive response back showing that your company stands behind your quality of work and is willing to admit and refund customers when significant mistakes are made, I would be happy to update my review to accurately reflect the service that I received.
