On February 4, 2020 I got a phone call from a good friend of mine. During our conversation my friend indicated he was taking the trash out. As he was walking his bag of trash to the bin, a man said “hey, you can’t pick cans out of the trash.” My friend was quite confused as to why this man thought he was picking cans out of the trash can. My friend let the man know that he was a property owner. The man never apologized, but continued escalating the conflict. The man told my friend in a belittling tone that he could tell the property manager if he likes. He then said, “screw you,” as he walked away. I was really upset when I heard what had happened to my friend. The first question that comes to mind is why did Steve think my friend was picking cans out of the trash? In our search we couldn’t find a reasonable explanation. It would appear that he was profiled because of the pigmentation of his skin color. Certainly we can see where people in America are profiled and falsely accused. Sadly Steve was given more than enough time to apologize, but never manned up to do the right thing.
