For approximately 1 year and 3 months there has been an intermittent rotten egg odor from one bathroom sink near the alley to our home. It was noticed after we returned from a 6 week trip. Our toilet in the same bathroom had a dark brown ring within the bowl and almost no water. I cleaned the bowl. There is still a dark brown stain inside the tank. Our plumber believed that it was a clogged drain. I proceeded to clear out hair from all the bathroom drains then used vinegar and baking soda solution which seemed to take care of this for some months. The odor came back. Our plumber believed that it was our p trap that was dry and that I needed to run water regularly in the sink with the odor because the adjacent shower bath and second sink were not used consistently. I tried this with additional vinegar/soda solution which worked for a few months but now theres an odor from the same sink---not a consistent odor but still present. Could there be a problem with the water line?
